Penalties

Is it just me or have the penalties gone down as the season has progressed?? Does anyone have the stats on that??

Yes, penalties have gone down. I remember being furious at the beginning of the season when I believe we got something like 16 penalties in 1 game. We got a few bad calls against us yesterday, but we dropped nicely in that category.

we're 8th in the league in penalties, which is an improvment over earlier in the season, i guess

well, he ends every show by saying that, DUH. it's like cronkite with "and that's the way it is"

The league usually has the officials call the game tight at the start of the season to set a tone. This year is was unusually tighter at the start. For whatever reasons the owners wanted a tighter called game at the start. In the end, the officials let the players play. For those that have officiated at a higher level than high school will understand what I just said. This is not a knock on anyone, but is meant to help out. A lot of people don't really understand what an official goes through. Like most of us, we do what our bosses tell us to do and that is what the officials do, they call the game the way the owners want it called. It all starts with the owners.

We seem to be getting less of the "mental error" penalties as the season has gone on. But, I am still getting pissed at some of the illegal contact penalties that are being called. I believe that those could probably be called on almost every play but we seem to get those at the most inopportune times.

We have only had one week (Buffalo 4 weeks ago) with double digit penalties in the last 11 weeks. Now we are averaging 6 penalties per game in our winning streak, not counting Buffalo's game...

We were averaging 13 penalties in our first month...
