There has been a lot of heat on pennington and his arm strength this season and throughout his career.. but i wanna let everyone know that if u check the stats he is tied for 6th for completions over 40 yards (5).. higher then the likes of Favre, warner, delhomme, cutler, p manning, e manning, garrard, hasselback, and palmer..

he is also tied with anderson, mcnabb, and big ben..

and looking at the WR compareably who does Penny have compared to the others?
-Coles, Fitzgerald, Boldin, Steve smith, Bradon Marshall, Reggie Wayne, Harrison, dallas clark, Burress, ocho cinco, tj hous

Also Penny is 11th for passes over 20 yards with 20 completions.. from 4th-10th place they only are 25,24,23,22,22,21,21 completions respectively

also another side note is that in 2006 (penny's last full season) he finished tied for 6th with passes over 40 yards over the likes of Romo, Brady, Favre, e manning, p manning, big ben, delhomme, hasselback, and rivers... let it be known that he also finished 13th with passes over 20 yards not far behind brady, mcnabb, big ben, romo, and rivers respectively

so stick that in your pipe and smoke it haters :D

I'm not a Penny-hater, and I love that he's our QB now...just what we needed at this point in time. However, many on this forum will take issue with the 'stats' you've provided, saying that it's actually the YAC that places him in such high esteem. You rarely see him actually throw the ball more than 15 yards PAST the line of scrimmage.

Now - I don't care personally what he does as long as he effciently runs the offense and keeps opposing defenses honest most of the time. I think this past breakout game with Teddy G is a sign of things to come. Just taking a shot or two down the field helps to open the middle of the field (where Penny's been most effective), and most of all, aid our running game so we can dominate in time of possession, etc.

Thanks for your post. It's time Penny gets recognized as being an integral part of the Dolphins' turnaround this year.

Go Fins!!!

Could you provide us with a YAC compare contrast? I love Pennington, but, if you are tryint to use stats to support his arm strength......It ain' workin. It's better you watch the games.

arm strenght isnt the issue here.. it is the deep passes.. yeah me may not have the zip on the football other qbs have, but arm strength isnt the only thing needed for long completions.. accuracy and ball placement are just important.. penny does both of those well.. i can recall many passes where he underthrows the ball a little and places it to the outside shoulder of the reciever.. the ball does not have a lot of strength behind it, but it gets to where it needs to be fore a big gain..

also with the yac.. u cant possibly say thats what all his passes were based off from.. if u looked at that you would have to go to all the qbs stats and change them.. yeah things may change a bit, but i gaurantee that the qbs will stay somewhat in the same range on the stats..

even if u account for yac, a lot of that could be credited to the qb.. a good qb can judge a good route and open field for a reciever and hit him in stride leadin him to the open field

i knew ppl would have these arguements, but when it comes down to it he gets the long passes done regardless of his arm strength:up:

Well aruged.

LOL, looks like there's atleast one person who still falls for the Pennington-stat gag.

Be serious, stats don't show all the missed oppurtunities or slightly underthrown deep passes that other QB's would've thrown for touchdown's.

Pennington's deep passes never seem to end up in the endzone.

THere is no excuse for that first play against Buffalo not being a touchdown. Look I love that Pennington is here so I don't get why people are upset with him.

Chad is who we thought he is.

i never knew ppl were tryin to make excuses for that first pass.. i thought us fans were happy with the big play right off the bat.. i guess some of us think otherwise tho:shakeno:

so pennington throws a magic ball that lets Wr's get more YAC than other qb's..
Or maybe to make up for his lack of arm strength he throws the balls where the holes in the D are and leads his Wr's perfect so they can catch in stride on the short routes...
either way we are a hell of a lot better team with him than we would be without

I mean people . . . no stat is going to justify Pennington's deep ball . . . it SUX . . . I was watching the Pitt-NYG game . . . and Ben Roethlisberger threw 2 ROPES 50 yards down field . . . perfect accuaracy and velocity . . . Pennington does not do that, I don't care what stat u pull.

Fact is I'm starting not to care about that, he is extremely effecient and gets the job done, and yea I would love that super deep pass threat, but truth be told, I would rather win . . . and Chad gives us that opportunity every week . . . I would take him over JP Losman . . . who can make the big pass, but would we be 3-4?

Anyways, best play of the game Sunday was when Chad threw the block on that Ricky run . . . I was at my brothers house going nuts, even tho the play lost 4 yards lol. I really like Chad P, the man has guts and is smart as hell, and we have found our QB for the next 2+ years.

Like Pennington, but he consistently lays out his WR's and tightends for the hospital bed.... unnecessarily. There are plenty of throws where the WR is completely wide open and once he catches the pass, the WR is stopped right there. Very little velocity from Penningtons arm.

These WR's and TE's know how to get open and this offensive coordinator has been making excellent play-calling decisions in the passing game... Both which is reason enough to get excited at the prospect of Chad Henne entering as the starter... Whenever that happens.

i cant complain about penny now.he completed the pass's that where needed last game.deep out ,post, and fly.but i agree with 100%.with the time the qb is getting to throw. henne is going to be big time.just after a couple of pass's.people are going to go wow,and this debate to will be over.

this really isnt a penny/henne debate...

yea lets be serious i don't recall many underthrown passes that would have been tds. and if its that bad his comp. % wouldn't be so high. don't give me the argument he's checking down either. he atleast 10th in passes throwing passes 11 or more yds in the air. if you want to bash players have some research to back it up. what the stats show is a measure of performance. the % of deep passes that end up in the endzone is very very nil.

You make a good point Goon Boss, the flip side of that is Penny puts it in a spot where the WR CAN make YAC.

GO PHINS~!
