The problem with Pennington is the same problem we had when Fiedler was with the team. When a QB can not stretch the field, defenses crowd the LOS and dare you to throw it long. When Jay was at QB, his inadequacies were somewhat covered up because we had a defense that could keep us in the game. We don't have that now. And I'm sick of hearing the argument that we were successful with Jay. Marino is the only QB that won us games. If we had a defense, when Jay was around, like the one we have now we would have been as bad, if not worse, than we are now.

What, you say that are running game was not that bad back then? Wannstadt, the idiot, was all into wearing the RBs out. He would continually feed the rock to the backs. We would run for 120yds/game. The only reason we would do that is because we had run the ball 40 times and avg. 3yds./carry. I cannot believe that imbicile got another job at Pitt.

If we ran a WC offense we might be able to get by with a QB that lacks arm strength, but the offense we are running is hindered because the defense simply out numbers us at the LOS. We need a guy that will move those defenders away from the LOS because they are afraid of being beat deep.

We have to give Henne a shot. It just does not make sense to keep a QB in that is not going to give us the best chance to win. I really don't understand the thinking that starting a QB early is going to shatter his confidence. These are grown men and I think that they have been playing the game long enough to realize the responsibilty they have when they are on the field. Chad will have his ups and downs, but he is our best hope to be successful.

slight edge to penns on decision making

That is what Jets fans had said all along about Pennington and is the reason he was released. Then we have Parcells who had to sign him just because he drafted him.

penningtons inability to spread defense is definitely affecting the run game, but i put most of responsibility on the o-line...even when the d doesn't stack the line the o-line still does not open up any holes

I honestly was going to start a thread on this a few weeks ago. I honestly liked Fiedler. His arm was just strong enough to make most throws when 100% healthy, but, if he was dinged, that little zip that was there was no longer there. Pennington is about the same way.

Slight edge? Shoot, ridiculous edge to Penny on decision making. Their arms are definitely of the same caliber, but Penny's accuracy on intermediate throws is far better too. Plus you don't get the feeling of a dreadful pick six every time he steps back to pass.

**** that

Fiedler won at least 50% of the games

Pennington will struggle to win 25% of his games

Yes I know the teams aren't equal but still...

Our o-line couldn't block their way out of a wet paper sack
