Watching Chad P against the Jags at the weekend reminded me just how good he is at selling play action. When he first came into the league it really stood out (certainly good enough to fool our DBs!) - now that he has Brown/Williams behind him this is going to be highly effective.

There are lots of skills that go to making a good QB and this is high up on my list. Marino was famously bad at it - I always recall that Steve DeBerg was a master of the art.

If you can create an extra split second of separation for your WRs then it more than compensates for not having the strongest arm in the world. Hope the offensive scheme is adjusted to take advantage of it.

he always was quite good at selling it. Pretty gutsy about it too, sometimes even turning his back to the defense to sell it. Was always expecting one DE to just drive his helmet right into Pennys back.

As for marino, he never had a running game to help him with Play action so he probably never bothered.

Yeah, I hated noodle arm in NY, it's taking a lot to root for him now, kind of like rooting for Thurman Thomas, Ugh!!!!

I never really cared for Thurman Thomas simply because THE ANSWER TO DAN MARINO'S LACK OF SUPER BOWL WINNING WOES WITHOUT A RB was an over the hill guy by the name of Thurman Thomas......not just because he was a Bill.

When you can't run it obviously hurts play action so the last couple of years it has been less effective but he should have a better time this year.

One of THE best ever at play action was a guy named Steve DeBerg. Check out video on him sometime & you will see.

Dude I have always HATED me some Chad Pennington. He has always tore us a new one, and his stringy sweaty hair, his ****iness, ugh! I can not believe that I am hoping that he does well. What a change of pace for me. I just hope he pans out and paves the way for the other Chad in Miami. Let's go #10!

PS-He does have the sickest play action in the game.

Post Marino....Pennington is the best thing we've had since Fiedler left. I'm just hoping we finally have someone that can move the offense and actually get us on the board.

well with Ted Ginn he is gonna put up big numbers, I find it hard to beleive we will have a losing season. if Ricky keeps running like this and Chad/Ginn keep up the connection. our passing defense is actually our strengh now I think. Bell and Allen are a great combo of safeties

While I appreciate the positive perspective, this team is not a playoff team nor are they a 9-7 team. If things break right, I could see them being 8-8 and being a VERY big surprise. But more than likely I think we're looking at 6-7 wins tops. We still play in the AFC East with the Patriots and the Jets (who are much improved from last year) and we've struggled mightily against the Bills the last few years.

With those 6 games in division plus games against SD, Seattle and games @ Arizona, Denver and Houston (all which are better teams than us) I dont see how in the world we will win 9 games and be a winning team.

we'll see

Good you picked up on that. I believe the first long completion to Ginn was a play action that allowed Ginn to seperate.

Marino was terrible at it mainly because he threw so hard and accurately he didn't need to develope it when he was young.

Pennington beat us bad a few times and he is fighter. One of the best things I used to like about Jay Fiedler was his determination to win. Even though he wasn't the best passer and most gifted, he was extremely competitive. And he won more than he lost. Pennington is the same way but more talented. If he doesn't lose games, we may just win some!!
I was talking with one of my Dol-Fan buddies Saturday night and brought up the point that the whole Brett Favre fiasco may just be one of the best things to happen to the Dolphins this year. Fingers crossed

Don't get to ahead of your self. Every year teams that are supposed to be great suck it up and one of the teams that are supposed to suck will be the champs.
