[FONT=arial,sans-serif]Chad Pennington threw the ball for the team in the recent OTA that was held last week. Although no media was allowed to watch, all reports had him throwing the ball well. Those reports may have been stretching the truth a bit, as Pennington and others in the organization seem a little more guarded in the optimism that preceded this event. Pennington was at Eric Mangini's camp for kids this weekend and the glowing report on his progress turned very cloudy. I know this story comes from Rich Cimini, the man who loves to "gloom and dome" everything involving the team, but what troubles me is the quotes from Pennington himself.

"I'm just trying not to look too far ahead," said Pennington, "It's like that old Southern saying: 'This isn't my first rodeo.' I know what I'm going through and I know what I'm going to go through in the future. I still have those high goals," he continued. "My optimism is up there, but I'm focused on day-to-day. There's a lot of time left and a lot of work to be done."

This attitude is a far cry from his "I can make every throw in the playbook" quote he made prior to this OTA last week. Even Mangini had an interesting take on Pennington being ready for training camp. Although he didn't give much information at all, he did come out with a "We're going to monitor it." This is the first time it was even questioned whether Pennington would be ready for training camp or not. Not a good sign.

The media is pissed because they don't have the dog and pony show called Herm Edwards. Mangini is playing the role of BB, and giving the media NOTHING.

(reaches for suicide pills)*

i hope pennington makes a full recovery becuase i always thought he was a good QB and a good sport.

:yikes:

besides, i want to play the jets when they are at their best and not win through injuries or whatever.

Two torn rotator cuff surgeries? I hope he does comeback because no matter what he will not be a highly effective QB in the NFL. Sorry, it's just is what it is at this point.

I have no doubt that he will attempt to comeback, but I just feel it is too much to overcome. What is the history of trying to become a an NFL QB after two rotator cuff surgeries?

He was a nice enough guy, seemed to be a real team player, it's nothing personal, but something tells me Tannenbaum and Mangini have mentally moved on already, ie. Clemens.

They were not two rotator cuff surgies. That is myth.

He got hurt in a totally different way, to a different part of the shoulder. Something about the "cap".

ill say it over and over again, there is no such thing as a healthy chad pennington he has never completed a season without missing games because of injury, ive heard that the guy is very nice and great to his fans so i wish the best for him in a career out of football because plain and simple one more injury and the guys done

we are about to have an interesting division. I have no doubt Mangini is a good coach and you guys did well by getting him. Three coaches with the same philosophy...

BZ, we are all still awaiting your link! I just got done watching NFL Total Access where they again stated he is coming off his 2nd rotator cuff surgery. You always reply, so step up to the plate after this post and show us the evidence to back up your claim.

He was told to tone it down, Mangini comes from the Parcells/Belichick school of media relations where they give out as little info as possible so he likely wasn't happy w/ Chad when he made the 1st remarks. I know Chad is doing very well and will be almost back to nromal by the start of the season- the concern I have is can he take a hit on that shoulder?

He will struggle this year, he has to learn another new system, and he has to learn how to stay healthy, which is pretty unlikely given his history.

I don't think his future is good he has a lot of pressure on him because they brought in some competition this year not like Jay Fiedler or Quincy Carter. I think his time is done soon and he will become a backup or retire within the next 2 to 3 years!
