The Tale of two QB's, a little comparison between Favre and Pennington.

Makes you wonder how good Pennington would look if we actually had more experience and talent at the WR position.

yeah alot of people saw this coming. Chad is not a gun slinger like Farve. I think Brett's number are slightly inflated because of a few games where he threw a total of like 9 of his touchdowns.

More big plays for Penny too, that means we are getting better YAC than the Jets are. GO FINS!!!

Best player move of the off season. Not only will he make us ALOT BETTER now he is probably the best coach Chad Henne could ever have. He is just a professional plain and simple.

Chad even has better career stats on a per game basis:
QB rating 90.6 to 85.8
Completion % 66.0 to 61.6
Avg. yards per pass 7.3 to 7.0
INT % 2.7 to 3.3
TD % 4.2 to 5.1 (Favre wins this one)
So why is Favre a sure HOFer and Chad not? Favre was able to play earlier/longer/more injury free. Brett has more yards and TDs by far due to more games and many more attempts. Favre was both tough and lucky to be able to throw more passes than any QB in history. Chad was tough (played with a torn rotor cuff half a season) but not Lucky. His injuries limited what could have been a HOF career. It is amazing that after breaking his left hand, having two rotor cuff tears in his right shoulder, leg injuries, etc. that he is still competing. Has any QB ever came back from 2 rotor cuff surgeries? One is usually a career ender.

Two vastly different QBs in vastly different schemes. Stats boil it down to the mean value though....As do W/Ls.

I have to say. Chad Pennington with Brett Favre's arm would be one hell of a quarterback.

He'd be the best ever, there aren't many smarter QBs than Chad and add in a big time arm and he'd be impossible to stop. Chad's biggest flaw has not been the perceived lack of arm strength but rather his durability. When healthy he's really good and he's healthy now so I am not surprissed at all by what he has done even though he's doing it w/ very little talent around him.

DO you realize how huge 18.3 YPA is? that is the biggest stat. and for him to have more yards than farve to this point? Man if our D just shores up we'll be dangerous down the stretch.

Don't agree

[/So why is Favre a sure HOFer and Chad not?QUOTE]

Why you ask because of the most important stat of all Chad 0 Brett 1 in superbowl rings.

I think this is an almost meaningless stat. Football is a team game. Some really mediocre QBs have won superbowls and some really great ones have not. The same can be said for running backs, wide receivers, etc.

Mistake

I think Chad has only 8.3 YPA not 18.3. My guess is the 1 should have been added to the end of the previous number. According to NFL.com I think Chad is actually 8.5 to Favre's 6.9 - still a huge difference.

We'll find out in 2009. For now, enjoy the ride.
