do you think pennington can strengthen his arm at all or has he had too many injuries? It seems arm strength is something that can be improved on in the gym

Old noodle arm couldn't throw the deep ball BEFORE the injuries, but I still love the way he's playing anyhow.

who cares, the guy has never missed the playoffs when he played an entire season

Arm strength is technich, how you throw the ball. It does not matter how Strong you are. Jay cutler is a diabetic And Skinny Bean Poll but has the strongest arm in the league.

Yeah, unfortuneately it is a God given talent you have or don't have. I played QB in highschool at only about 138 pounds, but I have always had a very good arm. I am a solid 205 now, but still throw a little over 60 yards in the air, same as high school. I am much stronger now than then.

Strongest arm in the league????

I had rotator cuff surgery on my right shoulder back in 2004....I had a partial torn labrum and it took about a month after the surgery before I could even lift my arm above my head. I am still able to throw a football and baseball pretty well but you lose a lot of the strength and zip in your arm. No amount of work in the gym is really going to get this back. I don't think Chad needs to fire it 50 yards downfield.....he is very accurate from 10-20 yards. People always call him Noodle Arm, but I think he is by far the best QB we have had since Dan Marino.

But this goes to show you arm strength isn't everything, ask Ryan Leaf.

I live up here in the Jests area and have seen plenty of Chad. He actually throws the long ball quite well as it is more of a touch pass. It is the 20 + yard to the sideline throws where the lack of arm strength shows.

Being a diabetic has nothing to do with this - and is something he has just recently had to deal with. And IF I remember correctly, he is a physical phenom. He was something like 6'3" and 225 coming out of college, and was a weight room phanatic. Isn't he the one who decided to show up for the scouting combine (unlike other high-profile QB prospects) and out-benched all other QBs and many other players, including some linemen? (Just looked it up - 23 reps of 225lbs.) He was, and for what I read, still is a workout warrior. Also, NFL.com has him at 233lbs entering this season. He's no Culpepper but he certainly isn't a 'Skinny Bean Poll.'

Anyway, I agree arm strength requires technique, but you aren't going to throw it over 40yds without being physically strong. I'd say it is a combo of the two - technique and physical strength.
