Let me just start this thread by saying, preferably, I want Keith Butler as new DC.

However, we know how much BP loves working with people he knows previously and running a 3-4 D, so why has nobody seriously considered..........................Pepper Johnson

'Johnson was drafted by the New York Giants in the second round of the 1986 NFL Draft. With the Giants, he was a member of both the Super Bowl XXI and Super Bowl XXV-winning teams, under head coach Bill Parcells.

'Johnson began his coaching career as an assistant linebackers coach with the Patriots during the 2000 season. Johnson then served as the Patriots' inside linebackers coach from 2001 through 2003, before moving to defensive line coach in 2004'.

During his time as ILB coach 2001-2003 he coached up players like T. Bruschi and Ted Johnson while getting production from bit part players like L. Izzo and Matt Chatham.

He has coached players like, Seymour, Warren, Wilfork and Jarvis Green. But also gaining production from low or not even drafted D Line men like - Marquis. Hill, E.Kelley, Dan Klecko (sometime FB), Mike Wright and LeKevan Smith.

Considering we drafted Langford, Solai and Merling, together with players like McDaniel and Starks, I believe someone like Pepper Johnson should be an ideal candidate for our DC position. As stated previously, he played and coached at LB so would understand the concept of both positions as opposed to some other DC candidates. He has worked with Parcells previously and under Bill Belicheat so would be schooled only in one way.........the Parcells way!!!!!!!

Considering the rumours of, Bowles, Gary Gibbs and Bill Sheridan, if not Butler I want BIG PEPPER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Butler already withdrew, and Pepper is strictly a rah rah guy. He'll never be anything but a position coach.

good at motivating and firing up the troops, not so much with X's and O's

As a DC, i want a rah rah motivating the troops kind of guy........how do you know he not good with the X's and O's or due to this have you marked him with that stigma? I know the same thoughts were there of Rex Ryan and Singletary when they interviewed for posts previously.

Do you know who else is so called rah rah.........last years COY.....Tony Sparano!

you asked what rah rah means and i told you

Seriously, no ordinary fan has any idea how good any particular position coach is with Xs and Os and I don't know why some of you insist upon acting like you know something that the rest of us don't.
Personally, I'd like Pepper Johnson. He comes from a good staff and he's coached up some great players. Seems like a good candidate to me.

He would be a good fit I like his resume, but would the pats give us that :ponder:chance I dont know...

Its been all over the Boston news that even though they are looking for a DC, Pepper is not even being considered, because its widely known within the organization that he isnt an x's and o's guy and like the previous person stated he is good at getting players motivated but he isnt going to be trusted to come up with a game plan.

You are SPOT ON with this.....they are considering some chick named Patricia ahead of him...it's pretty obvious that Pepper might not have what it takes to fill a DC position.

The rah rah is for 'position coaches', DC coordinates and calls the plays.
