Daniel Thomas - RB - Dolphins

The Miami Herald reports the Dolphins are "much higher" on Daniel Thomas than fans, and believe he can handle short-yardage duties.

Why the Dolphins remain so high on Thomas is the real question. He has shown absolutely nothing since being the No. 62 overall pick in the 2011 draft, and he's averaged just 3.0 YPC on eight preseason totes. The Dolphins would be wise to consider keeping Jonas Gray as the short-yardage pounder. Instead, they seem oddly locked in on the plodding Thomas as their No. 2.

DT had two nice runs last night. Is he fast? Not nessecarily. He is juking more and more and cutting back. He is pretty good sceen pass RB and is better in open field.

As far as short yardage situations. I will believe it when I see it.

Gray had the nice 29 yard run against Dallas, his other 20 carries average slightly over 2 yards per attempt. However, I do like Gray and Thomas and would be happy either way.

We need to see what Gray can do against a starting defense, all his carries so far have been against backups. No guarantee that he is any better than Thomas.

Also, glad to see Evan Silva is continuing to take shots at the Dolphins.

Because Ireland is a stubborn man and won't admit to another failed draft pick.
Just to note, look at the difference a TE with speed did last night compared to the pathetic Fasano. A stubborn Ireland kept a good blocking TE and his buddy on the roster for years instead of upgrading the position for the BETTER of the team.

Thats Ireland fo you. He is and always will be stubborn. Now people will say he did the opposite this offseason and yet fans still bitch. You know what? A good manager, coach, ANYTHING doesn't make drastic changes when he is abotu to lose his job, they do it after 1-2 years of seeing that it isn't working.

Now the super die hard fans will say he at least changed but the realist will say lets see what he does next year if his job is safe again before coming out and crowning him the next great GM in the world.

I love all four of our backs,Gillislee I didnt expect much out of this season baring an injury, but after that block he laid on the Matt Moore int,he's gonna get his share of chances this season.

Miller,Thomas,Gray,Gillislee in that order.

This is unfortunate.

The situation is really quite elementary. Which players have earned a roster spot? Both Gray and Thomas were given an opportunity this offseason. Gray has taken advantage of it, Thomas hasnt. Admittedly there is still some time for Thomas to recover, "its only preseason" and all of that(although apparently that attitude somehow disappeared after the Jags game, wonder why?). Thomas still has 3 more games to show he can get it done. But right now, hes playing like the player he has always been.

Miller is staying, hes penciled in as starter for a reason. Gillislee is a rookie, albeit a late round one, and should stay. Thigpen has a role on special teams. With all of that, we have enough depth and possibly talent at running back. If we go down with the injury bug at the position, we can bring in free agents off the street. Running backs arent quarterbacks after all, teams do it all the time. The other roster spot should go to the best remaining player. Gray has been that player through this offseason. If Thomas wasnt a former second round pick, this wouldnt even be a question. I say talent and production should rule our decision making, not where the player was drafted.

Exactly! Ireland just can't admit it when he drafts busts.

Gray averaged 2.2 yards per carry last night, his largest gain coming from a draw on 3rd and long; so let's not act as though Jonas has torn off the roof. After Miller, D.T. is the most polished runner -- and I don't think it's close. He has that burst Gray lacks, as well as the power Gillislee doesn't possess. If Thomas can stay healthy (and that. to me, is really the question), we'll be happy he remained a Dolphin for this season.

he had 2 TD's though. in the end, getting in the paint matters most as far as stats are concerned

Clyde Gates (3), A.J. Edds (4), Pat White (2), and Patrick Turner (3) all say hello.

If our offense can continually get the ball within 1-3 yards of the endzone, I'm confident D.T. will score a lot of touchdowns.

just how we couldn't cut NaNaee for weeks, it took him costing us 2 games for Ireland to finally pull the plug.

Stubborn business men are failures in their ventures.
