The Dolphins recently hosted SS Tyrell Johnson for a free agent visit.

Johnson would be a younger version of outgoing SS Yeremiah Bell; both are strictly in-the-box safeties. Johnson played special teams in Minnesota last year.

Dont know anything about him but a younger Bell doesn't sound to bad.

eh... hasn't played a full season since 2009. I remember liking him coming out of college though

He has but he's also been the leader of the secondary, the secondary goes to him for guidance, he has positioned them where they need to be.

Sure in a Madden planet, you can replace a guy with another guy that has the same skill set and not lose out. But in real life, leadership also matters.

If we're not going to get a significant upgrade for Bell, then just re-sign him already.

the fact that Bell was a leader shows one of a hundred things that were wrong with the team.

Bell has no makeup of being a leader whatsoever . If he's somehow placed as a leader because the rest of the guys are a bunch of blokes, plugs and jokers,.. If Bell is a leader of anything then that team will never be good.

And I dont want this Tyrell Johnson guy. Those safeties who play like linebackers are going to be extinct pretty soon, just like the fullback position has slowly been dwindling away over the past decade to where it's almost an irrelevant position now throughout the league. You need safeties who are pass D oriented FIRST. Period

We already have Reshad Jones who's the same mold so the last thing the dolphins should do is bring in a safety like Johnson who should really be a linebacker. Just like Yeremiah Bell was really a linebacker but in a safety body.. and you saw how Miami got TORCHED anytime they played a good QB and efficient offense . Whenever you needed stops in the 2nd half, it never happened because of having similar plugs and slugs on the roster

I dont know this player, but I'm not a fan of the "in the box" kind of SS anymore. We need a SS that can cover in todays NFL.

What are you talking about? How was Bell not a leader? Bell was always getting people lined up and got people fired up on the sidelines. He's quiet in the locker room and in interviews but so was Zach Thomas. On the field he's copletely different.

My recollection is that the Dolphins looked at drafting this guy back in 2008. I believe he may have had a visit.

I'm curious how you know Bell is not built to be a leader? Do you know him? Do you know somebody who knows him? Do you know somebody's second cousin who has seen him at the bar?

Everything I have heard from that team is that Bell took on a key leadership role and was VERY good at it.

This. Greyboy's post was an absolute joke. Bell wasn't a leader? He was pretty known throughout the media to be the leader of our secondary and made sure everyone was lined up correctly.

*bell not a leader* = hey wall... here's some ****... lets see if it sticks.
