Let me just start by saying this is theoretical, I could care less if you hate TO or don't want him on the team. I'm merely bringing up the likelihood of how Saban would handle such a player.

T.O. wanted out of the 49'ers. Did that surprise anybody? I mean honestly? Would you have wanted to remain with that organization the way it was being dragged thru the mud? That's not making excuses for his tirade with his OC or his comments about Garcia, but I'm just saying he was obviously sick to his stomach of that place. Then came the free-agency foul-up by his agent, which then created a desperate T.O......... basically his chance to truly cash in on his talents on his terms suddenly went down the tubes. I'm sure that was a very souring moment for the guy. He obviously was willing to do whatever possible to make sure he still got to the team of his choice, which was the Eagles.

The Eagles organization is where most of the problems with T.O. have been glamorized. I think it's interesting just how many players in that organization didn't come right out and back McNabb during there fued. Kind of makes you think doesn't it? Remember something like 18 current Eagles players showed up to his birthday party in Atlanta. Dan Patrick once mentioned on ESPN radio that there was something more to the McNabb/Ownes fued. It was more personal that anyone in the media was alllowed to find out. He even went so far as to hint it could've been about a woman, that it happens alot, ala Alonzo Mourning - Larry Johnson.

Regardless, T.O. is one oversensitive cat, no doubt. The moment Donovan McNabb got up in front of the camera during the SuperBowl week and proclaimed they could win without him was the moment the T.O. in Philly train got derailed. Why? Because he's an oversensistive brat. I think what T.O. was expecting was for the team to say they're gonna do what they have to do, but they're gonna miss him. He was seeking that kind of validation, especially when he was working so hard to beat all the odds and make such a quick comeback. Again, that was McNabb who made the comments though and, as Patrick stated, there's some sort of deeply seeded beef there that nobody knows about.

From that point on I believe Owens felt so disprespected that only the money would make it worth it to him, and in all seriousness he did have a point to some degree. It's almost ridiculous that he's not the NFL's highest paid reciever. I'm not about to get into a debate over how NFL players should be happy about the millions they make whether it's 3 million per or 4 million per because I agree. However, that's not about to change so I'm only discussing this from the perspective of "what is".

The comeback from his broken ankle and the way his teammates actually responded to him in Philly is enough to show me that the man can be dedicated to his team and co-exist. However, that still comes with strict caution. I think that fact that McMichael already came out and made those comments would make the aquisition questionable given the nature of Owens fragile ego. But then again, the teammates who were left desserted by Ricky Williams took him back, so anything's possible.

The fact that Saban's considering it and giving you the same PC he gave about Ricky shows you that we don't know everything about everything when it comes to T.O. I don't think there's a lion out there Saban thinks he can't tame.

Well said! I'm with you on that take!

the Ricky situation wasn't quite as complicated as the T.O. situation. Ricky was smoking dope and felt he carried the ball too much. the dope situation was fixed somehow when Ricky took the year off. The decrease in workload was fixed simply by having Ricky share carries with another back.

the T.O. situation is complicated because he makes a fuss out of anything. if the QB doesn't get him the ball enough than he makes a big deal out of it by yelling at the QB which can disrupt team chemistry. he will also make comments when he thinks the team is underperforming and agrue with coaches. he is a cancer and the only way to "tame" T.O. is to give him alot of money, make sure he gets the ball alot and keep the team at a high level of play. all of those things are hard to do sometimes but when he gets the ball and the team is winning than T.O. won't create problems

Nice evaluation, thanks. I certainly think pinning the Eagle implosion this year strictly on TO is unfair. It's like saying our 04 collaspes was strictly becasue of Ricky's retirement, which alot of the media did. Chester and Bowens going down as well as the OC feasco (sp) obviously contributed quite a bit just as the Eagles injuries have hurt them. He produces on the field that's a definite if we could just get him his own locker room ha ha. I wish sometimes that teams could put gag orders on players like they can on assistant coaches, CC & Mcmike have made the situation stickier for Saban, because when he says "Chemistry" I think that may be what he's referring to. What do you think?

TO's age is the only thing that scares me. 32 for a WR isn't that good. One maybe two years is ok, but anything over that you are looking at a rapid decline with the age factor. Atleast thats my thought on it.

I trust Saban's judgment on him.......

Saban will consider:
1) TO's past issues (by talking to TO, and other NFL contacts);
2) affect on team chemistry;
3) consult with the team leaders (JT, Zach, CC, RM, etc);
4) consider the implications to our salary CAP (short & long-term);
5) make it CRYSTAL CLEAR to T.O. that he'd be on a SHORT leash; and
6) ultimately make the right decision (either to sign or pass on him).

So, if Saban signs him, I trust him...
If Saban passes on T.O., I trust him....

Saban will neither sign nor pass on T.O. lightly. He'll do his homework, and make the right call either way. ;)

This guy was tutored by Jerry rice, he is probably the best conditioned WR in the league, barring injury I'd say 4-5 year of good to great productivity.

I would like to think that, but I just don't see it.

Dude he was going to finish with a 1770 yard season with 13-14 TDs. A MONSTER YEAR

The man has atleast 304 very good years left. His conditioning is amazing.
