Seems like their is confusion here. I know I am. I am sure it was discussed in other threads. However, how can the Saints deny him a GM job. Do people think that was part of the reason Ross made such a specific statement? I think the strong statement was to appease the FPA, but I wonder if the statement helps allow Pace to interview.

I like seeing the young, bright GM candidates being discussed. Pace falls into that category. However, how can the Saints deny permission? Color me very confused.

I think we were denied because he's not interested in the job.

I am just confused. It is an obvious promotion opportunity. I would be pissed if I were Pace. I would let him interview if I were them.

Yeah if its for a job with final say and not a lateral move, they can't deny. So I'm confused on that one too.

I think your answer may be at the bottom of the article. He may not have interest?

That would clear it up, but I have not heard that. That happened with a guy for the TB job, but I have not seen that here.

Right now, I am a Marc Ross supporter. Ray Farmer seems impressive too. Omar Khan confuses me because I think he is more of a Dawn Aponte than personnel guy. I also hope that Brian Gaine is not passed over too quick. I think he is qualified.

Are not they talking about the TB situation?

Just let him interview…wtf.

Gamble or McLoughlin would be my choice, but Pace is an intriguing candidate.

If he's given total control of roster they can't deny, but they can also deny if he has no interest. Similar thing happened with Tampa and Chris Ballard. It was announced KC denied the interview, but it later came out they were going to let them talk to Ballard but Ballard had no interest because he didn't want to move his family.

Hayden, what do you like about Gaine? Not that I'm against it but what do you see that I don't? And what I mean is I haven't really seen him do anything. For me I want someone with a bit more experience but I won't hate it if he's a bright mind and was behind scouting some decent talent

First of all, I WANT the Dolphins to win, NOW. I am impatient. I think that if Ross is insistent that Philbin stays and wants Aponte around, that Gaine can work in that environment. Not said enough, is Gaine and Philbin have a football relationship in common with Kirk Ferentz. It is not as much of a forced marriage situation that bothers me so much.

Also, Gaine is known for finding Cam Wake. What a find…

Finally, while he worked under Jeff Ireland, there are numerous stories how Gaine is much different.

I often wonder if Miami had a quality coach right under their noses in Todd Bowles. Was Miami too quick to look elsewhere. I just hope that we do not miss something with Gaine.

Too bad for Pace being denied that opportunity, if it was because of the misconception prior to SRoss's statements/clarification. The good news is there haven't been any potential candidates that I would be terribly opposed to. I guess at this stage I have concerns about strength and/or inexperience but I'm open minded.

Gaine is the one so far I'm most concerned about, due primarily to his prior associations. I would love to know if he was completely on board with Ireland's decisions or if they differed, and if so how much and on whom.

EDIT: Hayden I just read your post. I'm a little more intrigued about him now.

everyone wanted Wake - it was obvious he would more than make a roster - the pipeline to the bc lions had also been long established - goes back about 20 years
