I recently got a PM from a member of FinHeaven. Unfortunately, I was not able to read it since my post count is below 50. I don’t understand why I can’t read PM’s that are sent to me. I understand that you don’t want just anybody who is not a Dolphin fan to come on the site and PM people and annoy them, but as a new member I should be able to at least read and reply to the PM’s that are sent to me. If I can’t read or reply to PM’s sent to me, you should make it so that other people are not able to send a PM’s to members whose post count is below 50. I don’t want people to think that I am being rude and ignoring them. Am I doing something wrong or is the rule that you can’t even read a PM if your post count is below 50. Anytime I try to read the PM’s that were sent to me it just says that I can’t use the PM feature until my post count is 50.

There are good reasons for the site not allowing members to have PM privileges until they have 50 posts or more, but I know that's hard to see for someone that just registered. I'm sorry if that's causing you some inconvenience right now, but other members are aware of the rules and usually understand about that.

Stick around, enjoy the site. You'll be addicted like the rest of us in no time!

:)

I understand why the site does not allow someone who just registered to PM someone; I just don’t understand why I can’t even read a PM that was sent to me. It seems kind of silly. It really is more of an inconvenience for the person who sent the PM to me. I don’t usually PM people so it is not a big deal to me, but it stinks that I can’t read or reply to PM’s that are sent to me. Obviously the person who sent me the PM does not know about the rule, or he would not have sent the PM. I just hope that the person who sent the PM does not think that I am being rude by not replying. I love the site and have been a long time reader, but just recently registered.

Keep up the good work!

Maybe find a thread that this person is looking at and type something like "Hey _________ sorry about not writing you back. I hope we are still cool" and then explain the situation. If he's upset with you then he's probably not a guy you want pm'ing you anyway. If he accepts your apology, then you know you have a true FinFriend.

If you have any questions feel free to PM me.

Thanks, that’s a good idea. I doubt that he is upset with me though, I don't even know him. I just did not want someone who sent me a PM to think that I was being rude and not replying. I completely understand why FinHeaven would not want a newly registered member to be able to PM people. I can just see all the Bills, Jets, and Pats fan sending PM to members with nothing but trash talk every time we played them. I have seen a batch of Bronco, Jets, and Panther fans post there share of trash talk on the main board. I really do understand why you would not want to give someone who just registered PM privileges, but I don’t get why you can’t even read or reply to PM’s that are sent to you. Can anyone tell me why FinHeaven would not want a new member to be able to at least read a PM that was sent to him? It just does not make any sense to me. Oh well, Thanks again for the idea.

It may be the vbulletin forum software settings to where if you have a set post number for a user to be able to use the PrivateMessage function, it includes the no reading of PMs by default. It may or may not be that...but trust me, if AJ/Muck/Wharf have something set on the site a certain way, it's in the best interest of all the members and the site itself.

The reason this was originally put in place was because people would register and use the PM system in an attempt to mass spam our membership without us seeing it.

I think it's the really nice welcome message that is automatically sent via PM that seems to be causing these probs...(do you guys still do that?) There have been heaps of queries regarding the pm'ing system and how people have a pm but can't see it...maybe, if there's a way, the automated PM could go to the users inbox once their post count reaches 50? Or maybe it should be scrapped? Just a thought...

I understand, and that is a good reason why someone whose post count is below 50 should not be able to use the PM feature. That still does not explain why someone who has less than a 50 post count can not read or respond to a PM that is sent to them. I think that if someone gets a PM from a member they should at least be able to read it. Like I said in one of my earlier post, it is not a big deal to me since I don’t usually PM people, but I would like the chance to respond to people that PM me. If they won’t let you read or reply to PM’s that are sent to you until your post count is 50 or above, then they should make it so that members are not able to PM people whose post count is below 50.
