To start things off, those who are ready to jump off the cliff and the season is over... take a deep breath, step back, and look at the entire forest, not the individual trees.

It is unfair and quite frankly very rash to write off this defense already.
It was game one against the one of, if not the premier, offense in the National Football League. Tom Brady did what Tom Brady does... and our defense played poorly.. There is no excuse or reason behind it, but this is a top 7 Defense. Straw poll... is the Steelers defense lost of the season because they got their tails WHIPPED this weekend? of course not. its game one. they will be just fine.

Secondly, there were a few short comings.. especially in short yardage. But Chad Henne played the kind of game that if we even get 3/4's of that weekly.. this team will win plenty of games. But just as the defense needs to be looked at with a grain of salt, this of course does too.

The Running Game was pathetic. When we needed to have long drives and give our defense even a small breather.. we totally abandoned it because it was just ineffective. I think Reggie averaged around 3.4 yards per carry... if that. And when it counted.. with a half yard to go, Daboll basically said.. "Yeah you know we cant run for that half yard, sorry".

Next week at Houston we obviously go from Tom Brady to trying to stop Andre Johnson... and probably Arian Foster. Its one of the premier Offenses in the league, paired with a defense that beat up on the Manningless Colts (basically nobody knows if their league worst passing defense really has improved at all).

The Pats took care of business, no doubt. But there were plenty of things I liked. Most of all, Chad Henne and Brandon Marshall hooking up... while STILL leaving TD's on the field. Take away a few miscues and the ceiling is rising for this offense.
