The CBA situation is unfortunate but we need to put things into perspective! All the cuts we have made to date make sense! Think about it.

We have heard great things about Alabi and it is time for him to get his chance (we still have Carey if things no go his way)!

Jones was obvious due his cap number and we have Tillman whom performed well enough to compete for the starting job this year.

Madison was unfortunate but the CBA is forcing us to make tough decisions! Howard didn’t play well at all last year and therefore his removal was necessary.

Travis Daniels proved as a rookie that he can play and play well at that. We will have Poole and Mitchell coming in healthy and we will be drafting at least one CB this year. That will provide for a young secondary as a building block.

As for other “possible†cap cuts, we need to realize that we drafted certain players (Roth, Wright, Vickerson) to take over their respective positions and although this may be earlier than some would like this CBA situation is forcing our hand a little. But don’t fool yourself, they can play and proved that last year (with the exception of Vickerson but we have to trust the man in charge on this one). However, all signs in training camp were as positive as it gets regarding Vickerson.

I for one believe that this is a necessary evil! Don’t get me wrong, I didn’t like losing Surtain or Greenwood either, but things have worked out for the best. In a year, everyone might be talking about how this wasn’t all that bad because it forced guys into the lineup and gave them valuable experience (see Daniels last year).

We have Wright, Roth, Crowder, Daniels, Vickerson, Poole, and Mitchell (not to mention this year’s draft picks) to become the face of our defense for many years. I believe that Saban, Dom, and Mike will make the right decisions for the future of our franchise!

In Saban we trust!!!

We have more young prospects on defense, now I say we get some on offense. Draft a QB, OL, and WR. Then draft CB, SS, and OLB

Yessssssssss, 1,500 posts :dolphins:

Exactly..very good! Now if only we can make the Finheaven "Extreme-ists" understand that. Your 6th post was agood one! Better than many who have waay more and are planning our demise.

Good post. I was kinda thinking the same thing. We as a team are close to becoming contenders. Saban and company might have brought in more older vets to make some kind of a run this year. With things the way they are, we are almost forced to build with youth. Making for a stronger team in the long run and paving the way for the next dynasty. I believe when we get to the first superbowl(within next 3 yrs) we will win 3 in a row.

Here's the problem. In the old world, housecleaning of this nature would have enabled us to make personnel moves to grow as a franchise. Without a CBA, they're necessary just to stay compliant. We won't be able to acquire upgrades. And while the young players you mentioned are good, we still have gaps that are unfilled and will remain unfilled, apparently, for a while.

but its also important to groom rookies and have good leadership around them. daniels and crowder were thrown into the fire but u also gotta remember that they were playin alongside vets. i really wouldnt like to go into next season with a dline that consist of taylor, wright, vickerson, roth...maybe in a year or two but i still think they just need to be apart of the rotation and groomed properly but the vets like carter, holiday, zgonina, and traylor if he is still here. i wouldnt mind throwin wright into the fire and droppin traylor(even tho traylor was great last year) but its important to bring em along properly. vickerson i personally dont count on for anything, he is a project.

SO, our only hope is that many other NFL teams stay with holes much like the Dolphins in order to be competetive with them? I dont know..I dont think it's SO black and white. I really hate speculating on what MIGHT happen when things are so in the air right now. Hard times....:rolleyes2

Listen, I understand everyone’s concerns (I have them as well) but we need to stop jumping the gun and let the dust settle! We were 20 million over the cap and needed to get under in a hurry. After we cut the obvious players, it is now time to look where we have depth / starting potential.

The most obvious position is our DLINE. We used three draft picks on that area last year (I am including Wright) and it is the easiest place to free up more money (after Seau)! You have to realize that it is not easy to drop 20 million from your payroll without feeling a thing!! We still have holes, yes! Can we fill them, I believe so.

Not many teams will be players in free agency and players will have to sign for a lot less than they are accustomed to in recent years. We may get players on the cheap, we may not (we may also get some of our own back). If I am a free agent this year and I know that next year will be uncapped I am signing a 1 year deal and test the market in 2007! I believe that we will be seeing a lot of this!

One thing is for sure, we will be expecting/needing big things from our draft this year as well!! Is it so hard to believe that we expect to see two starters come from this draft? Give Saban some credit. He will do what is best for this team within the realm of possibility.

Great post, but my only concern still is whether or not some names we dont have young replacements for will get cut as a result of tryin to get under the cap... not to mention it hinders our ability to pick up a big name like Drew Brees or L. Bentley... all in all, you are right tho...

Nice Post!

I trust in Saban,

but I think a lot of you are in denial as to what is going on...

They are talking about releasing Kevin Carter today...that wasn't part of the plan....you can feed us the line about unlikely to reach incentives and all of that...but the bottom line is that Mueller came out a few months ago and said we would have all this money under the cap...well it surely doesn't look like that right now.

as for carter my guess is that he will restructure his contract. the chances of him be released imo are slim. he doesnt seem like he wants to retire and has already stated he wants to remain in miami. why wouldnt he restructure?
