whats the difference between them and Saban. O'yeah, he worked with Belechick 15 years ago so he must be a genius. Fact is some us overrated Sabans coaching ability from the start, we wanted him to succeed so bad, were not willing to admit he may have just been another good college coach who couldnt cut it in the nfl.

Well in Carrol's case he was not a big time college coach making the move. Most of these coaches take over pretty bad situations and in all three of these coaches cases they were taking over teams that were worse than ours. I am not including Erickson's first stint with seattle. I think too many people overate Saban's coaching ability at this level without enough evidence to to show he is that good at the pro level. There is also the other side that will blast a coach right out of the box without any chance for him to put a mark on the team. I support Saban for the rest of the year but if next year starts off like this one I will be the first one on the fire saban bandwagon. Not one person on this board predicted that we would be this bad this year and that includes many so called experts. Now of all a sudden they want to bring up the mess that Wanny left him. If we were the worst team talentwise in the league, yea fine i will accept that but there are many less talented teams with much better records than us so there is no excuse for being this bad. The main thing that is horrible is the oline and that is the root of all our offensive problems. Saban had two drafts to try to fix the line and has struck out so far. Hopefully year 3 will be fruitful. This is another reason I hated the Jason allen pick. Fix the line and we can win.

If Two years is all you give a coach to prove himself, I think you all are talking about the wrong sport........Hello......this isn't baseball, this isnt basketball either.

Lets be 4 real, I understand that everyone is upset that our team isnt winning right now, but everyone knew from the start this team was rebuilding....so dont expect a rebuild to happen overnight. Always set the bar high but with a margin or error.

Thats why I say that if next year we are sitting 1-6 then we have the wrong man for the job.

Well Mariucci had some good years in San Francisco and Jimmy Johnson has to be considered a success. It's too early to say either way some people wanted to annoint him a god after going 9-7 last year and now some people think he's Richie Kotite. The NFL is a much different game than college and I think Saban is adjusting. This offseason he brought in Mularkey and Capers which were "big-names," rather than promoting somebody from the staff which I think is a mistake. Alot of people hated Linehan on this site but the biggest move including Ricky being suspended and bringing in Daunte was the loss of Linehan. Coaches have to adjust to players so maybe Mularkey turns it around but I think next year the team probably will have their 3rd different OC in 3 years.

The difference is that Dennis Erikkson Sucked, and we don't know if Saban sucks yet, because he has just started coaching in the NFL. Maybe in 2 years we will have a better answer.

wow... everytime I think this board is safe, I see suggestions about Dennis Erickson... and I am a UM guy...

Saban has Mularkey. Nuff said. But Saban himself isn't really a good GM though. I dunno, something's changed about him this year. He's more mellow. Last year, he was hopping mad and red-faced.

Maybe let Randy Mueller be the guy who selects the players in the draft and free agency and let Nick do the coaching.

maybe lets try letting the guy coach for more than 20 games before calling him a bust

how many times have you guys heard THAT^ and yet you STILL make the same dumb arguements? thank jehovah for vip (which unfortunately also gets this dumb topic every once in awhile)
