Pete Prisco: 10 Bold NFL Predictions: Falcons soar, 49ers fall, Jim Harbaugh bolts

Every episode of Hard Knocks tells me that the Falcons are set for a disappointing season. They have a few good players like Julio and Roddy but Tony Gonzalez has now retired and their coaches are unimpressive. I expect them to be really bad maybe 5 - 11.

I could see that happening. I think their offense will be good though, I love Brian cox on that show lol

Counting on Prisco's expectations for the upcoming season is a little like enlisting Stevie Wonder to be your caddy.

I could use a new caddy.. I shot a crappy 91 today!! Thank god football is on tonight, to make me forget!!

I would like to predict something similar but Matt Ryan is capable of winning in spite of a lot of that stuff. I could totally see them finishing with anything from 5 to 11 wins. Same goes for the Steelers. Tomlin is in a downward spiral but Roethliberger is too good to bet against them on the under.

Falcons will be good, but not because of the D. Last year I think half or their starters were injured.

Correct. They lost several key players on a defense that was not good when those players were healthy. They had close to the worst D in the league last season, which is why the lost so often.

On offense, they lost their LT for most of the year, Roddy White played injured at first, then he missed a ton of games. White was not healthy until late in the year. They also lost Julio Jones for most of the year, leaving them with just Harry Douglas for most games. Gonzalez was old and double covered on every play.

Despite all of that, their offense was still pretty good because Matty Ice gonna Ice.

This year, with Matthews at LT and their WR unit healthy, look for them to score big numbers again on offense. They already had two key injuries to LT Baker and their defensive captain Weatherspoon this year. Their D will likely be pretty bad again, but with that offense they should win a lot. People talk about the Phins OL, but last season the Giants and Falcons both had worse OLs than the Phins did. Just think about the fact that the Falcons let Clabo walk and what they replaced him with on the right side was even worse. Once they lost Baker at LT they were a mess. Drafting Matthews was huge for them, but it was still a huge loss for Baker to get injured again this year.

The Saints are walking away with that division.

58 sacks says no one was worse than MIA.

Also, Tannehill with his line put up Ryan type numbers.

Either way the Falcons are a soft team, always has been.
