Interesting viewpoint against signing Peyton Manning

"...
The point was made to me that whatever team Manning joins will have to make concessions for him. The team will have to run an offense he's familiar with to maximize his talent immediately because, after all, he's going to be 36 years old and time is short. No time for him to learn a new system and get comfy in the system and start to produce maybe late in the year and maybe next year.In the Dolphins case, that would likely mean new coach Joe Philbin and offfensive coordinator Mike Sherman learning a system Manning is comfortable with rather than the other way around.

So let me get this straight: The Dolphins hire Philbin because they admire his work in Green Bay. They like the Green Bay model. They like the Green Bay system. And he hires buddy Mike Sherman, who was at Green Bay and feels a kinship with Philbin and the system he wants to run.
And having all that familiarity available to them, the Dolphins would scrap it all to make Manning comfortable with a system similar to the one he's run the past 14 years? They would make Manning the de-facto offensive coordinator?

One of the advantages everyone assumed the Dolphins would enjoy by hiring Philbin was expertise on soon-to-be free agent quarterback Matt Flynn, who played under Philbin in Green Bay and is obviously familiar with that system. Assuming Philbin wanted to make some tweaks to the system, the foundation was still going to remain and Flynn was going to enjoy a head start if he joined the Dolphins because he is very familiar with that foundation.
And the Dolphins are simply going to turn their back on that? That would be better?..."

This same topic was discussed on some south Florida radio shows this week. It is a concern. Assuming he is 80-100%, he may still have some limitations as well. Do we adapt to Peyton Mannings system or does he adapt to Sherman's/ Philbin system? A first glance, it seems like a big problem. But remember, Peyton runs the system on the field and calls his own plays. As long as the terminology can be ironed out, I think it can work.

All speculation. More media bull****!!!

media does not want manning in south florida. cus then that means they will have to talk about us all offseason.

but other than that, I dont get it cus Philbin said he is not taking GB offense and transposing it here. It will be an upbeat attacking offense. Thats what the man said. I dont see how peyton manning doesnt fit that explanation. but dont let common sense hit you in the azz. just keep denying.

The way I see it, Peyton would be the brains on the field. We would use his system. He would call his own plays. No need for a QB coach.

Philbin would be the braintrust behind the gameplan on Sundays. Just like in Green Bay. He will implement fast & quick routes (WCO).

Mike Sherman will organize and coordinate the offense in practice.

I wonder what "upbeat attacking offense" will actually look like. It sounds like Ross speak.
Upbeat could mean hurry up, or no huddle. Manning would fit that type nicely.

Let's not forget here that Peyton Manning is one of the greatest footballs minds to ever get under center. Peyton Manning's strength is maximizing the talents of the people around him. You should also be rest assured that if we sign Peyton Manning, we will also draft a quarterback in the 2nd round of the draft (Ryan Tannehill). Manning's success was never contributed to the system placed around him (one can argue Joe Montana), but his ability to be a BRILLIANT football mind. Manning's strength will be mentoring his teammates, both young and veteran, to learn the new system. Once Manning is accustomed to the system, he will find a way to take the Miami Dolphin's offense to a higher level than Philban and Sherman could have imagined. Our franchise won't skip a beat with Tannehill learning from arguably the greatest quarterback of all time. Signing Manning is a GREAT thing, and he is NOT a quarterback who's success is contributed to the system he was in, and he WILL be able adapt and teach. Peyton Manning will be a great bridge that will bring the Dolphin's franchise from mediocricy to elite!

Peyton was never one to take less to help out the Colts, dolphin fans expect him to do that in Miami? he has a chance to mentor a young QB and wants no part in Indy- you expect him to want to do that in Miami? Peyton is HUGE risk for the money it will take to sign him, the cap space he's taking up, he's late in his career cominf off a major surgery and missing a year, he was never a big game QB in his prime,... IF he can play he's going to elevate almost any team to be a playoff caliber team but he's not taking anyone to the SB and this would likely not be a good long term move for any team.

I never wanted and do not want Manning. This is one of the common sense reasons. How is this interesting?

But, if he wanted to play for the Jets, all of you Jets fans would embrace him and turn on the mighty Sancheez in a hot New York minute.

Actually I want no part of him, I'm comfortable w/ what we have at QB going forward and I don't want to throw away another season like we did w/ Favre in 2008. Many Jet fans would like him b/c most average fans love big names w/o looking at the big picture.

Respect your opinion there Junc, but I think your a little delusional if you think sanchez is going to be any more than say a Rex Grossman or a Hasslebeck kind of QB.

I think whereever Peyton goes he will get good money, but it will be like 10 or 12 Mil and then incentives to get the rest.

Hasslebeck was a very good QB for many years so if he turns out to be that I'll be happy. He's already well past Grossman.

I think there are too many questions to go after peyton, he's going to get paid which will cut into cap space, he's older and comng off major injury, he'll be in a new system for the 1st time in forever, he's coming off a year off w/ a brand new team and at his peak as great as he was in the reg season he was not great in big games.
