Peyton Manning - Interesting Counterpoint AGAINST signing him

He threw 3 TDs and 4 INTs in 4 postseason games that year, he was fortunate for some great matchups and excellent play from his D.

and imagine if he had a real NFL defense in his prime seasons....

He did, his D's were more than good enough to win many SBs if the QB played like he did in reg seasons but that didn't happen. Indy lost more postseason games b/c of the QB than b/c of the D.

the year they did win the SB, was the year the defense was by far the best he had played with

ben Roethlisberger's SB win vs the Seahawks he was 9/21 for 123 yards 0TDs and 2INTs

Overall in Super Bowls Big Ben has 3TDs and 5INTs and has still won 2 out of 3

That wasn't their best D by far, they had some vastly underrated defenses in that era. Not great defenses but more than good enouhg to win if the QB played to his ability.

Ben had a bad SB but he was GREAT in the AFC playoffs including outplaying Manning in Indy in the div rd. even w/ the bad SB he threw 7 TDs and 3 INts in that postseason vs. 3 and 7 for peyton in his SB year.

thats the afc championship trophy the colts earned while peyton commandeered them in that "big game" vs jets. i guess you didnt stick around for the celebration.

oh wow, 2 weeks before he threw away the SB.

the difference between Peyton and Big Ben is that the Colts were able to win that division every season and get to the playoffs every season because of Peyton winning 13,14,15 games every year, Ben is a great QB but he has a fair amount of crappy games with turnovers or throws 18 passes for 147yards and still gets wins, that was because of his defense and running game, if Peyton had a bad game like of some of Bens, there was 99 out of 100 times no shot that the Colts would win, i know you were talking playoffs but talking about the wins that got them to the playoffs, Peyton had more to do with those than Ben IMO

Ben doesn't always have a pretty stat line but he makes plays to win big games more often than not. Peyton is a top 5 all time reg season QB but he's a medicore postseason QB and let's not forget he's had the advantage of playing more than half his games in domes which help his great reg seasons.

Hasslebeck was a very good QB for many years so if he turns out to be that I'll be happy. He's already well past Grossman.

I think there are too many questions to go after peyton, he's going to get paid which will cut into cap space, he's older and comng off major injury, he'll be in a new system for the 1st time in forever, he's coming off a year off w/ a brand new team and at his peak as great as he was in the reg season he was not great in big games.

I'd be happy if he got us 1 win away from the superbowl year in and year out. We haven't been in the playoffs, much less won, in a very long time.[/QUOTE

My feeling is that Peyton would get us into the playoffs, get us late draft picks, but age out before he's able to get us to the SB. So 3 years from now, our young core has aged, our late draft picks have dropped our overall talent level, and we're looking for a franchise qb. Oh, and probably a new head coach and gm by then.
