Peyton Manning reality thread

I have had this surgery. I am fully 100% healed. The fact is that does not mean he is 100% the same as he was before. I am in no way the same as I was before I had this done even though I have had a full recovery. Some of you just dont get it.
I understand you 100%, because I am a Triple Fusion Patient, and it's been 5 years since my last surgery and even though I'm Technically 100% recovered or healed, I'm not 100% of what i was before the surgeries!!! This is what gets me so Frustrated with many of these Manning Threads, most fans seem to think that if he's cleared to play he's going to be like the old Manning we all have come to know ... that just is not the case with any Fusion Surgery Recipients .. Most Fans can't grasp the fact that even though a nerve may regenerate; it still doesn't mean a person is in the clear or 100% of what he or she was before, due to the plate and it's affect on the nerve root area where the surgery was performed!!! I guess as Dolphin Fans we can dream and hope that Manning will be gift wrapped to Miami and win Super Bowls with him as the QB!!! When in REALITY inspite of 100% health, Manning will never be able to throw a football with any consistency due to the sensitive nature of the injured area and the restrictions in movement skills of his neck that the plate causes after surgery!!! I'd love a completely healthy Manning playing QB, but i know that will never be the case and IMO a complete waste of Ross' MONEY to sign him, with so many unanswered questions!!! Not worth the risk!!!

Don't take this in any bad way, this might sound like a belittling question but i am serious, even though you aren't 100% as you were before the surgery, please go further as to how that will affect his throwing capability?

Peyton manning has an excellent arm but what puts him as one of the best qb's ever is his decision making ability and accuracy, and i just don't see how that can be affected by this.

Those who don't get it don't get that they don't get it.

They are so thrilled with the idea that Manning could come play for Miami that they can't see the harsh truth that he is never going to be the same player again, period.

to answer your question about how the surgery will affect his throwing is simple ... Every time he drops back to throw he will need to move his neck to scan the field and there will be times where he turns his neck too far and the plate or surgically repaired area will will have an adverse affect on the nerve root area where the surgery and plate was installed onto his spine ... everytime he takes a hit or falls to the ground the the jolt will affect the surgically repaired area ... In both cases I mentioned above can and will cause numbness in his throwing arm ... there is no getting around this!!! it's the nature of the game of football ... there will be time when manning coughs or sneezes, that he'll feel a twinge in his nerves and that can cause numbness as well ... this will happen for the rest of his life whether he plays football or not ... there are so many other instances in life where he will feel numbness in his arm, but it's too much to list here ... Trust me when I say he'll never be the same as he once was before the surgery ... my advise to you is to google or youtube Cervical Spinal Surgery and watch a small video of the Surgery Manning had, and you'll see what we are talking about ... IMO Manning may try to come back but the risk are too great .. even Sterling Sharpe has made comments about this, and he knows, because he has had the same surgery Manning has had and Sharpe retired ...

How about we get back to reality and stop pretending like we're doctors.

I never thought that I was a doctor. But I can speak from experience by having the same surgery. There is your reality.

When you have Fusion surgery they fuse 2 or more vertebrates together making them one. When they are fused you no longer can twist or bend at that joint because there is no longer a joint there. When he tries to turn his head and he can not twist at that joint he will either not be able to twist as far or he will have to turn his shoulders. I dont know if it will affect his throwing motion and I dont know if wont either. He may come out and be the same old guy we love. We all heel differently and he may heel alot better than I did but if he dont then its going to set our team back rather than ahead.

Another reality is that different people recover from the same surgery differently. Manning is someone who is always at peak physical health. He also has access to the best doctors in the country, and has been doing physical therapy with the very best in the nation. I can't comment on your experience with the surgery, or your prior physical health, but that puts Manning in a place most conducive for a return to football. I'm not saying he will or won't play again, but I do think you're being a little unfair in unequivocally saying he won't play again. Steve Slaton had the same surgery, and he is still playing...

Couldn't have said it better myself ... I've gotten ripped a few times in threads about Manning, because I've been trying to show the negative side to this ... Now I'm getting told to Get Back To Reality and stop trying to be a Doctor!!! Funny Stuff!!! I can understand why some fans want Manning, but to disregard what others like myself, you and other posters are saying about the negatives is ridiculous ...

If Manning is released , IMO he goes to the Jets.
With SB 2012/13 in New York.
Big fat Ryan will do everything in his power
To go get him. Imagine the Manning family re unites in
The Big Apple and takes New York by storm .
I can just see NFL marketing the dynamic duo.
And making tons of money for Football and ratings.

Now that to me makes a lot of sense.
And I'm no Jets fan as I hate the Jets.
But really they have a better team than we
us and are clearly closer to getting to the SB than
Our beloved Dolphins.

Hate to say it but that seems like a more realistic scenario .

Sorry for any mispelled words on my iPhone traveling.

If we pursue and sign Flynn, I will be happy. If we do not pursue him, I will be happy. I will not be happy if we pursue and do not get him. Obviously our pursuit will be based on Philbin's evaluation of him. If he wants him, I assume he's just as qualified as anyone to know if he is going to be a franchise QB.

I am for manning if manning says he can play at a high level. If Manning says he is not comfortable playing. Move on.

I also do not think he will require the same kind of contract he has had in the past due to his injury.

I doubt he would want to play in the same city/stadium as his brother. Idk just out of respect.
