Peyton Manning's meeting with Dolphins quarterback Ryan Tannehill was actually nothing more than a chance visit.

The five-time NFL MVP did not travel to South Florida to meet with Tannehill and coach Adam Gase, formerly his offensive coordinator in Denver. He was in the area for another obligation and decided to stop by the team facility in Davie.
"That got blown out of proportion a little bit," Gase said during an interview on SiriusXM NFL Radio on Wednesday night. "I mean Peyton was in town, he had some business down here, swung by the office. He goes down to eat lunch with some of the other guys in the building and Ryan was there eating lunch. So you know how quarterbacks are: they're sitting down and they're just talking shop.
"I mean Peyton was here a very short period of time. The whole making it sound like the guy's been living here for the last two months, that's [not accurate]."
Tannehill told The Miami Herald earlier this week "it was really cool" to chat with Manning. However, he did not indicate the long-time star was in town just to help him. That was more our own speculation.

What's the truth here? Prior threads made this out as if this was some great coup on the part of Gase, getting Manning to give Tannehill a Master Class on how to be a QB. Now it sounds like it was only Manning stopping by to say hi to his former coach with an informal accidental lunch with Tannehill.

If it was the latter does it change anyone's thoughts that they expressed in the other thread?

Posters here did the same. We all see what we want, without ever having the full facts.

Meh. Training camp can't get here soon enough.

Alot of projecting in that previous thread.

Actually, I think it was pointed out that "with all this tutoring he better step up...no excuses"...more then "this is going to take him to the next level.

I still think it speak volumes on Gase and the respect players have for him...

I think I have shared in a previous post that my father-in-law coached high school football here in the state of Florida for over forty years. Even being retired for fifteen years he still has former players stop by to say hello when they are in town. It does speak well of Gase that his former players respect him enough to go out of their way to stop by and say hi.

It does indeed..

This where I think the comment from players about Philbin differ from those about Gase...you can point to this visit...while it is not as big of a deal that people made it to be, it still shows something. I look at the signing for Oswilier and his first press conference in which he specifically thank Gase for his development...even after Gase has been gone for over a year.

I try like hell not to get my hope too high, but too many things point to him being a real coach and one that should be here for a long time.

Agreed. It also speaks volumes about Gase that he has enough confidence to refute a story like this. I could see Philbin puffing his chest out a bit and touting the Manning visit as something valuable he brought to the team.

Good on Manning too to do things like this. He is a quality future hall of famer making the most of every second he has on this earth. Somewhere as I wrote that, Brett Favre just sent out a dick pic.

This is what I figured happened all along.....it worked out well! Tanne even said his conversation would be a lot different now, now that he knows the offense a little better. It was cool he got to pick Manning's brain a little bit and who knows maybe it opened up a door for future discussions. The whole vibe to me suggested it wasn't something that was set up, it just happened.....glad it did!

This is what was originally reported by Barry. I don't see the blown out of proportion part.

Four years after unsuccessfully trying to sign him, the Dolphins finally got Peyton Manning in their building this offseason. And it was entirely his idea.

It speaks volumes about new Dolphins coach Adam Gase that Manning chose to quietly visit Dolphins headquarters earlier this spring to meet with Gase (his former offensive coordinator in Denver). He also shared some knowledge with Ryan Tannehill over lunch.

It was really cool,” Tannehill told me. “A guy that had his career, the living legend he is, coming off a Super Bowl winning season --- it was really cool just to be able to sit and pick his brain about things he's done in this offense and football things in general: snap counts, things you like, the way you want guys to run routes, little details about the game. We really just got to talk the game, which is something we both love.”

Manning, who is now retired, told Tannehill some of the nuances of Gase’s offense.

“At that time, we weren't able to meet with the coaches or anything, so I didn’t really have a great handle yet,” Tannehill said. “So I wasn't really able to dive into the playbook too much. So I had a few questions [for Manning]. If he comes back now, we can have a completely different conversation.”

What was clear, Tannehill, said is that Manning “respects Adam. The things they did, getting to a Super Bowl together, there is a mutual respect there. He is something I aspire to be, as good or better as he is one day. Hopefully, we'll be able to get him to come around some more.”

I never did believe it.

Why would peyton give two chits about ryan tannehill? To buy a plane ticket and fly to florida just to help out a qb who is barely a blip on the nfl radar never made any sense to me. This makes MUCH more sense.

This whole manning/gase siamese twin thing has grown to rediculous portions. Guy tossed his coach a public bone, adding some clout helping him out on getting his first h/c gig and all if a sudden, peytons WHOLE SUCCESSES are due to gase and they are besties and peyton comes a runnin' whenever he thinks gase needs something.

Stop the hype folks. Nothing good ever comes from hype hysteria.

Hype hysteria?

All your posts about players you like are all hype hysteria.

I think Manning did come in to help coach up Tannahill. Gase can't say that he had Manning come into coach
him, because I think that might be part of the rules. Not sure just my opinion.

The flip side of this is Manning seems like a way cool guy, with Ryan being there it would almost be rude not to talk a bit. I can see why Gase would jump on this to squash it out of respect for Manning. I could see teams bombarding him with requests to do the same or be a QB coach...which I am sure Manning wants a break for a bit!
