Manning's older brother Cooper saw his football career end in high school due to spinal stenosis. It seems like this could be a genetic condition? Is it possible that Peyton has this condition too? Come to think of it, we haven't heard how his injury occured. If it is this, I don't see Peyton playing again.

He was once an all-state high school receiver, catching touchdown passes from little brother Peyton, and a hot commodity headed for Mississippi.

But then came the numbness in the hands and fingers, and the tests and finally the diagnosis: Spinal stenosis, a narrowing of the spinal canal.

He definitely has a genetic condition contributing to this....probably not as extensive as his older brother's. There was no specific injury....as most people see, Peyton doesn't take many hard shots and is one of the least sacked QBs in the league. Regardless, of whether it's genetic or not, he's had a cervical fusion now...thus, his spine mechanics have changed and he is having lasting effects from his impinged nerve.

If Peyton had this, it would have been detected before now. He definitely has spinal issues, just not this one.

The more I read about things like these, the more I believe the Dolphins should steer clear of bringing in Manning. Not only that, but wasn't there a report out saying his neck is not healing as fast as the thought it would? I think he might have to do himself and retire before he winds up hurting himself seriously! No sense in putting your life on the line...he's a champ, a future hall of famer, and has broken TONS of records. What more does he have to play for? :idk:

What his brother has, has nothing to do with what his issue is

You can't say that with any certainty. My wife was diagnosed with it at 42. That is 6 years older than Manning. Things like this have a way of sneaking up on people.

Your wife probably hasn't been gone over by doctors with a fine tooth comb constantly starting at age 18.

Peyton probably doesn't have spinal stenosis. He just had a herniated or ruptured disc. That herniation was pressing on the nerve that goes out to his arm which was giving him pain and weakness in that arm. So it sounds like the first surgery he had was unsuccessful in alleviating that pressure on the nerve. So what they probably did to him was a spinal fusion surgery where they remove the bad disc entirely. The surgery usually works but the problem is that you have to let it heal correctly the first time otherwise you're boned. So if he were to risk playing while the fusion was not fully healed, then it WOULD likely be the end of his career if something were to happen to it. It takes like 3 months to heal but maybe Peyton saw that his team sucked so hard that he would just take the whole year off.

maybe, Peyton's been having knee and neck surgeries seemingly every offseason. IMO, it's just wear and tear.

Peyton just signed a huge contract & banked a huge signing bonus.

Teams give players a thorough check before giving any money, let alone BIG money ... so the Dr.s never saw it coming. Probably injury related.

Your wrong, my wife is a nurse who works for one of the largest health care systems in the country. With the kind of health insurance they have if they get so much as a hang nail they see a doctor.
