PFF loving Philips

Phillips is Mr. Hustle. The kid never stops. He's always around the ball or chasing someone down. He's got an extra gear, although the sack numbers haven't shown, he's had a habit of going on a spurt. They'll come soon enough. But what's more important, he's improved in his run defense. It's helped Miami improve against the run overall, minus the Baltimore and Chicago games where the QB's went bonkers running the football. He has more room to grow, once that happens, look out.

Considering I said that 2 weeks ago and then we proceeded to sack Houston 5 times, I think my point was made.

I looked, we are 10 behind KC (#5 currently), we have 25 and they have 35

That's kind of my point. The team currently fifth in sacks has averaged over three sacks a game, while we just got 20% of our sack total against the worst team in the league.

If KC just gets their normal 3 sacks a game, we'll have to get those five sacks in all remaining six games to pass them.

If we averaged 3 to 4 per game we certainly could.

If we average 3.5 per game for the remaining 6 games, we'd end with 46. KC would have to get fewer than 2 sacks a game. (And they still get to play Houston)

Not so fast, my friend. CG has a lot to account for. Other than Hunt, a failure to draft for the OLine, Iggy(Flo shares the blame), trading for Rosen, refusal to draft a quality RB, dynamic LB. Certifying the hiring of Gase and Flo. His years as head scout, not vetting Jon Martin, Dion Jordan, and overpaying players based in a half season of good play. That said, his refusal to kowtow to Flo may have saved this franchise. Add the acquisition of Hill and Armstead. Finally, Tua.. and Grier’s terrific relationship with MM… allowing the latter to “suggest” players such as Mostert and RB Wilson, Jr, Sherfield, Ingold and others.
You don't want too much, do ya? Half that **** happened under another BIG boss, but YOU know...

This is why I keep telling anyone who'll listen, that you have to stop being so enamored with sack numbers. Yes, they are a glamour stat for defensive players. And yes, they are a stat that will get you paid come contract time. But sacks don't always (or hardly ever) show the full picture. How many sacks did the player get from coming completely unblocked, due to a blown blocking assignment? How many sacks were because of a bad snap, and the QB just had to fall on the ball? There's so many variables (and sometimes luck) that go into this one statistic, that it becomes almost meaningless at times. Especially if the opposing team still manages to convert on 3rd and 4th down, and/or score a touchdown. Jaelen Phillips does so much that doesn't show up in the box score, that it's flat out ridiculous. He's a game wrecker, that doesn't have the eye popping stats that most casual fans are accustomed to, to bare out his level of productivity. I grit my teeth every time he's not on the field defensively. And now he's even impacting special teams in a big way. This dude is a freaking unit.
The Ogbah special. Good player, don't get me wrong, but his sack numbers were inflated by the scheme giving him free rushes.

Grier was head scout asst GM for more than a decade prior to becoming GM. The common denominator. And yes, I DO know. Even Jake Long had injury issues prior to being drafted. Based on scouting reports, the Dolphins passed on Matt Ryan for Long, a fine player with a bad body. Prior to last season, in the 22 years with Grier in the front office, the Fins had NOT ONE ROOKIE IF THE YEAR. Only 2 other teams can say that. Several teams have had 3.

Head scout means **** if you have a GM and or head coach that is incompetent. Head scout doesn’t have the final say on anything. It‘s like being an assistant night manager at a 7-11 jiffy store.

You remind me of….ah, never mind.

Obviously not **** if you are soon made GM. Grier was a golden child, son of a former NFL exec Bobby Grier. 22 years… obviously his opinion was valued. Tannenbaum was an accountant who still doesn’t know his ass from a guava.
