I'm just hoping we sort out the O-line QUICKLY so R17 doesn't suffer from David Carr syndrome.

If the Dolphins view Tannehill as the future franchise QB (which I'm guessing they are with the 8th pick in the draft) , having steady progress from one year to the next. Unless he as some complete melt down (season wise, not just last two games) he will get his 5/$70 deal which is on par with other mid-tier QB's.

We can battle out if Tannehill is worth that, but thats besides the point.

For the production we are getting from R17 TODAY, his price tag of $2 and change is dirt cheap.

To Juncs point, we hope he doesn't get the big pay day from "future" potential and bust like many others (Juncs own Mr. Buttfumble) and to Hoops point, we can strike gold and get him "cheap" before he blows up like Rodgers did.

he'll be affordable, he's not going to be a break the bank type of guy and if he is that is a great problem to have. the problem is while you have a ton of cap space you have to bring in a ton of players that will eat much of that space. the key for miami will be to leave themselves cap flexibility over the next 2 years to sign him long term assuming he takes that next step and becomes a good NFL starting QB.

As posted, that will be the challenge for Hickey. He will have to clear cap space which does not have to be done now because of RT's cheap contract.

He's in a tough spot, he has a ton of cap room and some nice talent to work with but he has plenty of work to do and he needs to win now. If he had job security I would say use that cap space wisely but if they miss the playoffs again Philbin is gone and they may just start over w/ a new GM(not fair to Hickey but that's life) so he may go crazy w/ that cap space bringing in more talent now which wouldn't be a good long term plan.

Good point and a tuff choice for Hickey. Does he go after winning this year, building for next year or, try to do both in burning the candle at both ends?

Most are fine but, some do cross the line. I think it would be a good idea to see what is and not allowed on the forum. I "think" there is some confusion.

I think the TOS clearly answers the allowed and not allowed. What the TOS does not address is Ego.
 
This statistic is nice, and I happen to be a big fan of both Tannehill and Wilson. But, QB's more than any other position tend to be paid based on performance rather than projection. Their careers are much longer if they are pocket passers, and they tend to be extremely productive in their last few years. Most other positions are far less productive at the end of their careers as experience cannot make up for the drop off of physical skills. Also, QB's tend to have less problems with injuries than other positions at the same age.

So, if you discount QB's still on rookie contracts you get one of the best correlations of team value to comparative salary within that position. Good guys get paid and under performers tend to be paid less (e.g. see Mark Sanchez next year).

But make no mistake about it. If Tannehill continues to progress, he will command bank, and we will gladly pay it. THEN Dawn Aponte can show her cap management and contract negotiations skills.
