Because you don't know whether you're engaging in confirmation bias, and you aren't grading all players in all games. Consequently you really can't say how accurate you would be in saying how well John Jerry, for example, compares to the average guard in the league.

Now, PFF may have its weaknesses in that regard as well, though they'd theoretically be a whole lot less weak than the approach of any single person who isn't doing what they do.

Nobody knows exactly what a certain assignment was/is so there is no chance they fully understand what a player is supposed to do. It's not baseball, it's a team sport not an individual sport..
 
The OL is just as strong as its weakest link, so averaging the ratings of single players is a pretty stupid way to rate the group... You could have 4 probowlers on the OL if your left tackle is Marc Colombo, your fked... So yeah....

PFF does separate the run and pass. The article was just overall. Phins are #16 on the pass, and #19 on the run. Panthers are #3 and #2.

I mostly agree with what you have said but, do not have the time to get into it now. Getting ready for the game.

Good point. How do we know that any of these sites properly grade OLs based on man blocking or zone blocking? The assignments are very different. Sometimes each lineman in a zone blocking scheme will have multiple options in his assigned zone. How do they account for that?
