PFF Ranks FA Safeties

4. Chris Clemons

2013 Grade: +4.1
2013 Snaps: 1158

Summary: Clemons made this same list last year, but after a stellar season he jumped five spots from the ninth-best free agent safety, to No. 4. Last year, with no big offers on the table, he returned to Miami on a one-year deal hoping to increase his value. The former fifth-round pick is now ready to cash in with a long-term deal, and while most will view him as a drop-off from the top three names, he might be a better value. Clemons was our 19th-ranked safety and excelled in coverage — his +7.2 grade in that department was ninth among safeties and he allowed just 0.20 yards per coverage snap, best in the league. However, his run defense grade dipped from +4.4 in 2012 to -3.6 in 2013 and his 14 missed tackles were 13th most of all safeties. Clemons will surely garner more interest than he did last year and be an asset to a team seeking a coverage-minded safety.

If he learns to catch he can be a great FS in the NFL. Ill bring him back only because he already knows the DEF and we know what we are getting.

Resign clemons. Byrd will not get 10 mil, he's a safety not a shutdown corner. 7 or 8 mil per year for byrd depending on guarantees.

As they say, Clemons is a value pick, not a great player. I found it interesting that, with Coyles new scheme, Clemons was much worse vs the run, Jones was horrible, and Ellerbe and Wheeler were MUCH worse than a year ago.

Maybe, just maybe, it was not the players.

Maybe but the missed tackles are on the players. Many times they were so focused on stripping the ball they forgot to wrap up.

We could do better, but we could do A LOT worse. Coyle is doing wonders with secondary. Consistency is key.

Haha this post is funny... our defense was BY FAR the strength of this team. Our defense was far from perfect, but if we boasted an even AVERAGE offense (we were ranked 28th in scoring offense) then our defense would have been considered DOMINANT.

We were a top 10 defense even with that garbage offense and no ball control. Imagine if our offense was even half way decent.

Clemons isn't good. I'm tired of pff trying to convince me he is.

top 10 scoring defense but still gave up plenty of yards. That bend but don't break gets u killed after a while.
