Pff Take On Our Draft

Cool hope these guys are on target

1) If Fitz is primarily a CB this year, I feel less pleased about the pick than I did.
2) I agree with most of this video, which has me worried since most of the time I think these guys are way off :laugh

I think half the reason you get a Fitz is he can lineup in quite a few positions....FS, nickel S or WLB, CB comes out of the huddle and the defense doesn't know where he lining up,,,

Best Ruby Rhod voice - I don't want one position...I want all positions

Fitzpatrick primarily at slot? That's interesting. His college numbers show that's where he was lined up most of the time. I agree with those who say Miami will use him all over. The big thing is what he can do against bigger guys like a Gronkowski.

I also agree that Gesicki will be a better pro than a college player and I was also surprised he wasn't the first tight end drafted. Honestly, thought New England would grab him with one of their first round picks. I had his name circled as the player I most wanted when he slipped past the first round.

Definitely feel good about the draft.

I enjoyed the PFF analysis. Thanks GOfins54! (Zach Thomas, w00t!)

This draft was about certain things, and I think we nailed it. Among those things were 1) speed and athleticism, 2) high character, 3) intelligence, 4) work ethic, 5) flexibility.

Minkah Fitzpatrick and Jerome Baker bring that. Fitz can be the FS, Nickel or Dime, giving us coverage for injuries and a chess piece to move around. He is also a leader who can take charge and correctly organize our wayward athletes. His size and speed allow him to cover the entire field and minimize chunk plays wherever they occur. And, given the current less-physical rules implemented for practices in the Collective Bargaining agreement, every team needs good tacklers--because realistically, you cannot practice it anymore.

Every year we have depth issues at safety ... now with Reshad Jones (SS), TJ McDonald (SS/LB hybrid), and Minkah Fitzpatrick (FS/NB), we finally have coverage for injuries. We finally have flexibility. We finally have the pieces we need to properly defend.

Jerome Baker is a super-fast guy who will follow direction, can cover TE's, and make plays all over the field. He may not be the chess piece that Fitzpatrick is, but we can do more things with Baker on the game day roster.

Refreshing to see someone like the Dolphins draft and didn't give them a failing grade for not drafting a QB.

Havn't the Phins already made comments saying Fitz is playing FS? In my opinion that's where he's going. No brainer.

Loved this, thanks for sharing. I loved, and couldn’t agree more on the take of Gesicki. Out side of a personal melt down this pick is going to be a home run.

I agree on the total gist of the report. We got faster and more dynamic all over the field. A safety that can play every secondary position, a lb who is athletic and fluid as a safety, a te who has better athletic numbers than many WRs, and a RB who can play WR. I hope the transition is smooth, and we stop looking outclassed at these spots.

Burke seems to be intentionally muddying the waters actually. His media interaction the other day seemed to suggest that Fitzpatrick would play the nickel and he'd be tried elsewhere to see how he does. Both Gase and Burke have come out and indicated that TJ McDonald was a safety, but this seems contradictory to Burke's statements late last season that TJ McDonald might be that hybrid SS/LB guy that lots of teams use these days to match up with TE's. It also runs counter to what Gase said last season about how Reshad Jones and TJ McDonald did not work out nearly as well as they had expected, so they were looking at TJ elsewhere.

All in all, I don't think there's been a strong definitive statement yet about Fitzgerald's position or TJ McDonald's position. Either they're playing their cards close to the vest, or they're going to let the competition play out and decide once they have more pre-season information. Not sure which it is.

Gase did mention that the pairing of TJ and Reshad didnt work because they lost their chemistry from TJs 8 week suspension. That pairing could still be in play, never knew minkah was primarily in the slot so who knows. Its a good problem to have though

I think their reluctance to say anything has to do with it being a "slap in the face" to 5 year vet TJ, to suggest their rookie, who hasn't even stepped on the field yet, is better at TJ's job than he is. Though I'm pretty sure that's how they feel.

No reason to have TJ hating Minkah before he even meets him, just to placate the media. Whether they want to call TJ a safety, LB, or hybrid, the end result will be the same. They want to get their best 11 players on the field, and TJ is easily better at LB than our 3rd best LB. Maybe even our 2nd.

Grier stated with no hesitation whatsoever that Minkah was playing safety.

There is no issue. The brass weren't playing any mystery games with this one.

Quint Poling could be a dark horse at MLB.

I see McMillan as a Sam, and so did a lot of other people when he was drafted. Not on this board, the media.
