The 2013 Miami Dolphins took the league and fans for a ride that many would like to forget — opening the season with a surprising three-game win streak only to lose four straight amidst the Jonathan Martin/Richie Incognito ordeal.
To their credit, the Dolphins persevered and in the second half of the season put themselves in prime position to make the playoffs. With disappointing back-to-back losses to the rival Bills and Jets to close out the year, Miami finished 8-8 and on the outside looking in.
With a new offensive coordinator and a rebuilt offensive line, the Dolphins hope to flip the script on what was a major weakness in 2013 and make a push into the playoffs. As the season draws nearer, here are five reasons to be confident and five reasons to be concerned about the Miami Dolphins in 2014.

I'm not concerned about the secondary. I think they have upgraded from last yr. Successful teams win by drafting and developing their own players. Taylor and Davis are looking good so far in preseason and are likely to improve throughout the season.

The LB's suck. Besides Misi but idk how he will be playing out of position. The secondary is a question mark outside of Grimes.

Five Reasons To Be Confident

1. Death, Taxes, and Cameron Wake

I like that. Wake was sidelined for several games and did not get his usual double digit sack totals. Looking for a big year out of him and the other DE's.

More worried about the safety position especially until Jones gets back.

I think our secondary winds up either being a very pleasant surprise or a complete disaster. It seems like it all comes down to whether or not Will Davis is as good as he's looked at times in preseason.

I think PFF was pretty fair to us there.

Actually, no -- it shouldn't come down to Davis.

It SHOULD come down to Taylor living up to his second round hype. But no way in heck is he gonna do that. So then it comes down to Davis.

Davis is pretty much developing on schedule. Taylor is so disappointing to watch play. At certain times his feel for the position seems to completely disappear. And he gets exposed as stiff, non-instinctual CB who will be continually burned in his career. Second round CBs should be plug and play. Taylor is plug and pay (dearly).

So it's up to Davis by default. But it shouldn't be.

But seriously... Who gives a damn about who was picked first between the two? They re both from the same draft, if one of them shows promise, then shouldnt we be happy instead of saying whaaaa whaaaa whaaaa they messed up it was the other one that was supposed to be good...? Thats like.... WTF?

Davis looks so much better in preseason this year. I'm curious to see if that will carry over when the games count. I don't really care where they were drafted. Right now, the coaches have decided that Davis is in front of Taylor, and based on what we've seen, I would agree.

The new rule changes may favor a guy like Davis who is not very physical but usually in position to contest the ball. He seems to have a nose for the ball and should have several INT's before the year is over. Run support ? Not so much but as the nickle he's fine.

I think the dline can get enough pressure going to mask some of our deficiencies in the secondary. My biggest concern on D is teams running all over us because of awful linebacker play. That's where the jets and bills can be successful against us. It will be important for our offense to get score early and often to make teams one dimensional. I know we haven't seen that from our O in what seems like 20 years, but if it's going to happen it will be with the group we have this season

I'm just a realist. I don't live in a fantasy world where Philbin is the next Lombardi or the Dolphins have the best linebackers since the 85 bears.

Are you aware that there is a huge zone between sucking and being the next Lomabardi or 85 Bears? You are not a realist, you are a pessimist. Big difference.
