Above average and around #12 sounds about right to me, based on what I have seen this year. RT is still learning, developing, and needs a few more pieces in surrounding talent. Hell, Sunday was the first time he has ever played a game in the cold and snow. He has improved and I fully expect that improvement to continue.

Well, I wouldn't call him "above average" unless he was significantly above average. If he's not significantly above average, I'd call him average.

It isn't that sophisticated, really. You can't really call the 52nd percentile significantly different from the 50th, with the 50th being precisely average. In fact I wouldn't call him above average until he was up around the 84th percentile, so he has quite a ways to go in that regard.

But I agree with you, I was scratching my head over some of it. No way I'd take Romo over Brady. And Luck LAST? I really respect PFF but you've got to laugh at that one. Just because a QB struggles a particular period of time doesn't mean they're better or worse than they were 6 months ago. If I'm not mistaken PFF had Luck as a top 5 QB earlier in the season. So what, now he's a bust?

Luck is the only thing holding his team together. He's got a crappy D, and lost his best WR and RB. You click on their team, and their IR list is a mile long.

And so with all that, you'd expect the Colts to be losing, but instead they're a division leader. When I compare the Colts to the Dolphins, they not only have a better record, but they outscore us, too. Their QB has a very good overall QB Rating, and he throws plenty of TD passes with very few interceptions. Ryan Tannehill has improved this year, and Hartline has more TD's, Clay has exploded, Wallace is catching some, but we have too many interceptions. If we didn't have a great defense, pressuring up front, with Grimes picking off passes, our offense would be in a pickle.

It will be interesting to see how both the Colts and the Dolphins evolve, and see how both teams do, with our young QB's and new coaches. Both teams need a good running game, and both of us are having some issues with that. Next year, the passing game will improve on it's own, but the running game needs to be FIXED.

Actually Luck's QB rating is but only average, but his clutch play distinguishes him considerably from Tannehill, despite their very similar QB ratings and YPAs.

The pass defense has been very good, and you're exactly right that it's largely responsible for the team's winning record this year. We can only hope that next year the pass defense remains as strong, while Tannehill continues his upward trajectory and improves to about the 90 QB rating range. At that point, with a normal turnover margin or better, the team will be in position to be highly competitive in the league.

Since Reggie Wayne went down, Luck is 2-2 beating TN twice and losing to 2 winning teams. Even factoring in Wayne, Luck's ypa is a mediocre 6.8 and lower the last 4 games.

Why just compare the last 4 games? Well, it's because all last season I was maintaining that if you add RW's total yards, yds/game and # of receptions to the Tannehill column - or remove them from the Luck column they'd have very close to the same stats with the exception of more Ints for Luck. Despite his 4 years college seasoning and being coached by Pep Hamilton, it seems that Reggie Wayne is the major difference between a relatively raw Tannehill and Luck.

Now I'm not comparing a seasoned 4year college QB who was the most heralded QB recruit since Peyton to a relatively raw Tannehill. Luck, has already demonstrated the clutch gene that Tannehill is now showing promise of having. Luck has an enviable mobility and escapability that I don't know whether Tannehill will ever resemble, although neither has a bunch of great QBs like Peyton and Brady so that's nearly irrelevant IMO. However, to compare the two does Tannehill a gross disservice most of all. :idk:

Because we made big plays at critical moments in all phases of the game. But then we started losing, because our weaknesses started to show. We need our QB to get better, we need to protect him, we need a better running game, and we need to tighten up the passing game. We need TD's not FG's, and Sturgis better start hitting the ones he's asked to make.

I agree we'll be very competitive next year, if we can stay healthy, and make the right personnel moves. Hopefully Tanny will continue to develop. Gibson will be back. I don't trust Miller. I really do think we need to add a running back along with an O lineman.

Good post, and I disagree that it's a disservice. You compared them admirably, and we can continue to, in the future.

I agree that losing Wayne was big for them, but they lost a lot more than Wayne. Still....it's worth noting that Miami's done a really good job spreading the ball around to different receivers, splitting the RB time in half, and even using Clay when Keller went down. No one injury could be detrimental to us. We were able to compensate, better than they were, I think. Maybe chalk that one up to the coaches.

Luck is not last. I added him to the top 20 as he was #21 and we had been comparing him the RT this year. Flacco is the other name QB not in the top 20. There are 30 QB's taking 50% of their team's snaps.
