PFF’s worst corners in the league? Xavien Howard

He had a few bad games, he’s still more or less a rookie. Tonight was like his 17 or 18 game if my memory serves me right.

Howard played well last week and even better this week. Maybe he hit the sophomore slump this year but is finally turning the corner. It takes time for young CBs to adjust to the NFL level.

I've been a huge fan of the kid since before we drafted him. In fact, he was one of my draft picks that I identified well before the draft, and one of my favorite picks that year. And it's been a while for the extra-young kid who was injured as a rookie started to show the ball-skills he had in college ... but it's nice to see them finally show up!

Just to be clear, he straight mugged Cooks most of the time, and those will mostly be penalties in Foxboro. But hey, he stayed close, played physical and those ballhawking skills were front and center tonight!

Our secondary has very much lacked takeaways. The last few games, we've gotten the takeaways we've been lacking, and our OL has looked good. If those two things hold up, this team will be much improved.

Grats X. We've had faith in you.

If wr can draft a reliable replacement for McCain our CB situation is looking strong in 2018.

I've been saying all season, PFF's grades of Howard IMO have been unfair. He's won some battles and lost some. Now I do think he was struggling to find the ball in the air this season, and I think that gift pick 6 last week was enough for him to get some confidence and go from there. I think he was pressing to make a play. Now he knows he can.

On another note, We are NOT a zone team.

Honestly, for the first time in the last 15 years of my life I can say that I've missed too much game action this year to quantify PFF's rating. I will say though that it's ratings might have been accurate, however we must recognize that there is a difference between a decent player having a bad stretch, and a straight-up bad player. When I've seen Howard on the field (healthy) the last two years he seems to have the able to move and adjust (combined with speed) that really good corners have. The only other young CB I've seen come in, out of all that we've drafted (rather highly too) in recent years, is Vontae Davis, whose head didn't match his physical ability.
