New Dolphins coach Joe Philbin is telling his players that their offense needs to be fast.
That’s not to say Philbin is trying to put nothing but running backs and receivers who run 4.3 forties on the field (although that would be nice), but Philbin says the offense needs to be fast between plays: As soon as the last play is done, get the next play called, get lined up and go.
“It’s very fast, non-stop,” tight end/fullback Charles Clay told the Sun-Sentinel. “We want to get plays off with 20 seconds left on the play clock. . . . It’s not much time in-between plays, and on top of that it is a lot of switching formations. There are a lot of different things we’re doing.”
Philbin coordinated an offense in Green Bay that had a lot of success with an up-tempo attack, but a big part of that success was having a quarterback in Aaron Rodgers who was able to read defenses at the line of scrimmage and get the ball where it needed to go. If Matt Moore, David Garrard or Ryan Tannehill can do that, Philbin’s offense will succeed in Miami, too. If not, not.

If there are 3 and outs, it will get ugly for the defense.

The up-tempo offense combined with the 1pm home games will be tough on opposing defenses

You are very right, our defense could really hurt if our offense doesn't get consistent first downs

In 2007 Garrard was efficient at moving the chains, Jax was 3rd at time of Possession
In 2008 Garrard led the Jags to 8th best time of possesion.
In 2009 Garrard led the jags to the 19th best time of possesion
In 2010 garrard led the Jags to the 4th best time of possesion.

In those 4 years the Jags alsways had the ball more than their opposition.

Garrard has shown he knows how to move the chains.

I love it!!. That is the way the high scoring offenses get the defenses on their heels. Sure, there will be some three and outs, especially at the beginning of the season while they are shaking off the rust and getting the kinks out. Save the clock chewing ball control & ground and pound until after we have established a 4TD lead.

i read this yesterday elsewhere...and thought...that sounds great and all spread the wealth get other involved etc but why do you think the pack is able to spread the wealth so much...cause of guys like greg jennings and jordy nelson and jermichael finley and aaron rodgers that take so much of the defenses attention the roll players can get theirs...

you take those guys out of the equation and just run with roll players which is what we pretty much are trying to do in miami and that o stops running like a well oiled machine...

With an offense like this, the defense will give up a ton of yards, but will need to hold up in the red zone. We really need to be in the top 10 in scoring defense to make the palyoffs I think. Last year the Pats and Packers were last in defense (total yards), but were 14th and 19th in scoring defense. That is a perfect example of I'm trying to say. The difference is that those two teams can put up a ton of points, which is why they didn't need to be in the top 10. I don't think we will be putting up points like those two, so we will need all the help we can get on D.

If Sherman gets his production and runs close to 90 offensive plays a game, as he stated he wants, two things are happening: 1) Miami is winning ball games or 2) Miami is getting blown out of ball games.

This is a much more refreshing report than hearing sparanos offense was gonna ground and pound and control the clock to try an keep opposing offenses on the sideline. This offense sounds like it has the intentions of puttting up points by attacking constantly instead of trying to run and control the clock while trying to minimize turnovers, kick field goals and put all the pressure on your defense to stop quick striking offenses.

i like the up tempo snap the ball early in the clock while the d is sleeping aspects also but if this o doesn't make hay moving the chains this defense is gonna be gassed in the 2nd half of games...so i hope they temper how fast they go a little based on how things are going in game...

im sure Philbin will adjust. He sounds like a smart guy. The basis of the offense is a fast uptempo pace but i doubt they will be running no huddle all game long.

True tru true

But who was Jordy Nelson before he beca,e Jordey Nelson? Who was Jennings before he became Jennings? Now I'm no dummy I know we dont have neither of them on our roster but you have to start some place. Who knows maybe we find a special player in that large group of recievers that we have.
