We’re still several weeks away from knowing whether Peyton Manning will be available in free agency this year, and it may be longer than that before we know whether he’ll be capable of playing in 2012. But if Manning is available and ready to go, the Miami Dolphins want him.
The Miami Herald, citing two sources with direct knowledge of the Dolphins’ plans, reports that Manning is the quarterback the Dolphins desire most, and Miami will aggressively pursue him if he’s available.

If they go for Manning, does that mean they don't want Flynn? You wouldn't pay Flynn all that money to sit on the bench

Flynn would be too old after a few years of Manning. My guess is that they would draft a QB in the 2nd round or even the first to learn under Manning. Tannenhill, Cousins, etc.

I hope they draft someone whether it's Manning or Flynn, but you don't sign two free agent QBs to big money contracts

This is more a PR stunt than anything.
Remember Ireland still runs Miami. Everything is coded.

So they leak they will go after Peytnon. This accomplishes several goals.
1. It says through official channels to Manning. We want you if Indy doesn't. Puts us on his radar.
2. It breeds excitement amongst the fan base.
3. It provides a smoke screen to all other negotiations.
If Miami openly says it will go hard after Flynn then this will make it more likely that the Pack will try to franchise him for picks.
By openly saying that Manning(who is a mirage right now since there is no guarrantee he plays) is their top target they try and cool the market for Flynn. Everyone is looking at Miami to go after Flynn because of the obvious connection to Philbin.

The phins top choice is manning. I believe we land him.

If Manning came than no to Flynn in less he wants a backup roll which I would doubt. B/C that would mean less money.

I think the Manning target says a lot about Matt Flynn. If Miami doesn't land Flynn, or even pursue him, other teams should really re-consider before paying him $20M+ guaranteed.

No one has seen Flynn's body of work more than Philbin.

I do not think Miami will announce they are going after Flynn until after he is officially declared a free agent. If Miami does not go after Flynn at all then that is a big red flag to all those that are considering him.

Where do these guys get these stories? There are no "inside sources" If the Phins are interested in him, there is no way in hell they let that out (i'm figuring Ross, Ireland and Philbin would be the only ones to know, and do you see one of them leaking it?). Manning is under contract with another team. Why would anyone in the organization leak info and risk getting hit with tampering charges, and that would be tampering. There would go our first round pick (remember the Pats). I just think these reporters are talking out of their a**es trying to drum up a story. They have no clue, they need to stop.

Manning to Dolphins: no no no no no no no no NO!!!

Anybody remember our experience with Trent Green?

Keep Moore, try and get Flynn and sign/draft a third a QB NOT named J.P. Losman to back up.
