DOUBLE STANDARD FOR DOLPHINS, TOO
Posted by Mike Florio on May 1, 2008, 7:09 a.m.
Miami Dolphins V.P. of football operations Bill Parcells famously declared not long after getting the job that he doesn’t want any “thugs or hoodlums†on the team.

But, as the South Florida Sun-Sentinel points out, Parcells’ team has recently signed a guy who pleaded guilty to criminal charges while in college. Twice.

Specifically, one of the team’s undrafted free agents is Selwyn Lymon, a Purdue receiver who was arrested as part of the incident that resulted in charges being filed against linebacker Stanford Keglar, a draft pick of the Tennessee Titans. In connection with that incident, Lymon emerged with a stab wound in his chest. He later entered guilty pleas on charges of disorderly conduct, false informing, and minor consumption of alcohol.

Thus, it’s only a matter of time before Lymon or Koren Robinson or Jared Allen or someone else with a history of drinking and driving kills someone whose only crime was choosing to live his or her life in or around a city that hosts a pro football team.

I don't care too much either way.....but that last line is simply laughable.

the best part about the article was the following from the comments:

I guess that is the chance we have to take to be a football fan. I could think of no greater honor as a football fan than to be a hood ornament on Jared Allen’s car.

Not that he’s going to be doing the glug glug vroom vroom thing anytime soon.

:sidelol:

Well...isn't that special.

Hahaha... Nice. Hey, I'm such a big FinFan that I really wouldn't mind being a hood ornament on one of their cars. It's the 'honor' of being hit that counts!

If you haven't figured out that it was a lie about hoodlums and thugs, where have you been? He immediately signed Kirricui (sp)

You don't get it do you...? :rolleyes2:

Of course it was hypocritical. It's business. If the guy drinks and drives but can pancake a 280 pound guy to the ground he's good for business until he screws up and becomes a liability.

As far as the comments go, I'm just mad that I didn't get to post that reply to the story first :(

I guess your desire to win and keep your reputation up at all costs (Parcells) supercedes the morals and actions of some players.

What don't I get?that some dumber than a bag of hair cheerleader wants to be a hood ornament on Jared Allen's car?
I get it......yes,it would be incredibly cool to get hit by a car that coincidentally was driven by someone in the NFL.Don't tell me what I get or don't get.

First...it appears none of the charges are felonies...and if I'm reading this crap correctly...it appears he was the one stabbed. The cost of this player is next to nothing...so what did Parcells and Co. have to lose? If thats all he has in his record...why waste time, Florio...do you have a hate thing for Parcells? I wonder.

WTF lymon? o lord Parcells must need a Sprite.

Please no more players with fruity names anymore, its embarassing!

While I'm sure it's not quite this simple, this is no different than someone who's 19 or 20 at college, get into a fight at a party/bar and both parties file charges on the other. Now if he was the one with the knife or if it was a little more serious charge, then he'd not be on the team. But this . . . . please. However, since he's a f/a signing, don't think he's on a very long leash though.

“thugs or hoodlums” are very different than Stabbing victims and drunk drivers(not that I have respect or tolerance for that). Some guys just make stupid mistakes, some guys live certain life styles.
