PFT: Fiedler to start on opening day

Fiedler is a good back-up, and can play well if he's put in the right situation, but I don't think he's a good fit for Heimerdinger's offense. With that said the Jets have started slow in the past, but if Fiedler starts, and Martin is still Martin, than they'll be alright. If he has to start for an extended period of time maybe the Bills can overtake them depending on Losman.

If any news is reported by PFT that is negative for the Phins it is completely disregarded by most, but something that could be negative for a division rival is different?

Its funny how that works... but it seems to be true.

Actually, I didn't notice this was PFT news. If it's true, I stand by my comments. It is a far from settled matter in my mind now, though.

Yep, week 2 is now an even more must win situation because a loss means not just a Jets win but the whole league chuckling about how the idiot Miami fans drove Fiedler out as not good enough only to feel his wrath.

You don't become idiots over night, it takes at least 5 years. :D

Fiedler is now considered, and should be, one of the best backups in the league. As a Starter, he ranks in the 20's. He had a good running game, and a good defense, and a terrible out pass to go along with it. I'm glad he's gone...

I CANNOT WAIT! Even if he doesnt start...has Pennington EVER had a full season????? We will meet Fiedler some day...

Hey All-

let me 1st state that I'm not a J. Fiedler Fan; however, this guy has to be one of the toughest guys ever!! Just think about it..............you are supposed to come in and replace Dan "F-ing" Marino!!! Talk about pressure.................Holy ****....................even if you play a perfect game and u F-up just a bit everyone backs the bus up over you!!! One of the only things I can say about Fiedler is: HE HAD THE HEART OF A LION!! Rememer the Radier GAme where Fiedler took a sneek up the middle (and just got smashed) as he was scoring the winning TD!!! Price less!!! How about when Fiedler drove the winning drive on sunday night in Denver when C. Chambers got his bell rung and fiedler broke his finger..................and mare kicked a 53 yarder to win the game!!!! Unbelieveable................I was in Vegas surrounded by Bronco Fans who were giving me Sh-it whole game...............and then we won...............imagine how I ripped into those fans...........................GOOOOOOOOOO FINZZZZZZZZZZZZZ!!!
I still don't feel like we have the proper Qb on our roster; however, I can't take away the "heart of a lion" that fiedler puts on the line each and every sunday. Don't get me wrong...............I threw up every time the went back to pass; however, at least he had the balls to try and flll in after Marino w/o the line and supporting cast marino had!!

You would care. You wouldn't be saying good riddance if he makes the pro bowl and the Jets go deep into the playoffs or win the SB with him starting.[/QUOTE

So youre saying that Fiedler should still be here? Im saying that he needed to go. I dont care how he does with the Jest, his time here was done. I couldnt care less how he does in New York he wasnt going to help us win and thats just a fact. I think the exaggeration in my post was pretty obvious, Fiedler will never start a probowl lets get real here.]

like ive said many times....ill be laughing my butt off when he beats us and AJ touchy feeley throws 3 more INTs for TD's

It wasn't just Miami fans. It was the entire national media AND other NFL front offices. Do you recall the events which transpired after they traded for Feeley.
Fiedler's agent was informed that he could negotiate a new deal/ trade with other teams. Nobody was interested in Fiedler (at least as a starter). I believe there was a lukewarm interest in him as a backup, not much else.
He has bounced around from team to team his entire career and at one point was out of the league. Only DW saw the next franchise QB in Fiedler (Rick Mirer mistake all over again).
Certainly Fiedler is capable of having good games, but he is severely limited due to a below average NFL arm. He cannot make clutch throws when needed. I'm sure he will play better for the Jets than he did for us (look at Griese and Lucas), but that just underscores the problems with the Dolphin offense the last several yrs and it is why I have some confidence that Feeley will be a solid player. We now have a true coordinator and head coach. Feely, from a physical standpoint has a much better arm than Fiedler. Only question with Feeley is his mental command of the game.

At least he had Lamar Smith and RW. Those guys took a lot of pressure off of Fiedler (something Feely never had). Chambers and Mc Michael aren't too shabby either.

Toughness is good, but it also takes a little something called talent. In that Denver game he had a little luck also. John Mobley dropped an int. that would have ended the game. Instead it went right through his hands and into the WR's hands for a clutch 1st down.
The bottom line is that you knew you could only get so far with Fiedler. I give him some credit, but he wasn't the long term answer. When they signed him, at the time, I thought it would be a stop gap measure and I supported it. I was disappointed when they signed him to a long term deal and made no attempt to bring in a young QB prospect. He wasn't worthy of a 5 yr stint as a starter in this league.

i think there wouldn´t be any room for a laugh for myself, i had the feeling right when i heard he signed with the jets that destiny will work his magic and he will play one of the 2 games against us, but i sure hope he is the old JF throwing picks and getting his receivers nailed with inaccurate passes

Doubt it! I'll be laughing my butt off when Jay tries handing the rock off to one of his lineman and JT grabs the fumble, takin it to the house.
