Well, kinda. They bury it so as to avoid having to admit they were wrong.

SHURMUR TO SPARTANS?
A league source tells us that Eagles quarterbacks coach Pat Shurmur has emerged as the primary candidate for the head coaching job at Michigan State University, and that he is expected to get the job. Another source tells us that there is mutual interest, but that it is "nowhere near a done deal."

Shurmur has been with the Eagles for eight years, and he has been the quarterbacks coach for five seasons. He was an All-Big Ten center and team captain at Michigan State, and he is the nephew of the late Fritz Shurmur, defensive coordinator of the 1996 Packers.

Michigan State recently announced that head coach John L. Smith won't return in 2007. Former 49ers and Lions coach Steve Mariucci has indicated that he is not interested in the job, per Adam Schefter of NFLN. We reported last week that the Spartans wanted to lure former Michigan State head coach Nick Saban back to East Lansing from Miami, but we've learned in various discussions with league and industry sources that Saban genuinely has no interest in the job.

I don't mind that guys work ethic, throw as much offal on the wall to see what sticks, but he is such a bitter bastid. It's like he gets pleasure from always putting everything down...

Once again, why you can rarely trust PFT's initial reporting of a story.

their "stories" are listed under the title RUMOR mill, they should be trusted as much as any other rumor. PFT is credible for what it is, a RUMOR site. most of their RUMORS turn out to have some truth to them, this particular story reported that their was a RUMOR that Mich. state wanted saban, this report says that there is a RUMOR that sabans not interested. if you want NEWS then go to espn, but if you want to read about RUMORS, PFT is perfectly credible.

The problem with that logic is that PFT is increasingly being used by "real" media outlets as the starting point for stories, because they get quite a bit right. In this case, they didn't--not because they were reporting a rumor, but because they took the leap from "Saban is having a bad season and there's a college job open" to "Saban is going to the college job because he's having a bad season."

PFT is trash. Not once did I think Saban would leave the Miami job. He just doesn't seem like a quitter.

 the problem with that logic is that the "starting point" for the so-called real media is an internet RUMOR mill.

no the RUMOR was that Mich. state was going to try to lure saban back. and this was a quote from that story.
Keep in mind that this is simply wild-*** speculation

what else do you want them to do? its posted in their RUMOR mill and specifically says its wild speculation:confused:

Agreed, but the entire media has a problem with things like "reporting." They're increasingly content to just stay behind their desk and write whatever springs to mind instead of actually digging up stories.

... I'm not disputing that they were reporting a rumor. I said that their reporting of the rumor wasn't the issue, but the opinion they inserted into the story.
