JAGS HOT FOR 'PEPPER
A league source tells us that, as widely rumored, the Jacksonville Jaguars have a strong interest in quarterback Daunte Culpepper.
Per the source, assistant head coach Mike "Meathead" Tice is pushing Culpepper hard. One guy that Tice doesn't need to persuade is head coach Jack Del Rio, who isn't fond of current starter Byron Leftwich (notwithstanding comments from Del Rio suggesting a contrary sentiment).
The problem is that V.P. of player personnel Shack Harris is torn. He likes both Culpepper and Leftwich.
Still, Harris needs to be thinking about the future. Leftwich is under contract through 2007, as is Quinn Gray. David Garrard, who likely would be the odd man out if Culpepper is acquired, is signed through 2008.
The other wild card here is Del Rio's job security. Does adding Culpepper give Del Rio another year if the team tanks in 2007? Does the presence of Culpepper give Tice a shot at being the next coach of the team if Del Rio is fired?
The bottom line here is that, if Culpepper is healthy, he's better than Leftwich, Garrard, or Gray. But no one knows how healthy Culpepper really is.

Just saw that. Well, time to see if they pony up for him. Mueller has leverage. The longer he holds onto Daunte, the less value Daunte has to any team that would take him on.

TOS maintains that you need to include the link if you copy an article in the main forum

I wouldn't think of Culpepper being an upgrade over Leftwich or Garrard

Apperantly Daunte feels that he needs to give the Fins FO a farewell gift...

That's all fine and good but it's going to hit him in the wallet and even worse, ensure that 2007 is yet another year spent on the bench. Yet another year away from the last time he did anything worthy of note...

i think we will see dc gone early july in order to get him in to his new team tchow does washington sound???

I watched the interview with Trent Green over the weekend, and he said something no one followed up on. Namely, he said Daunte had not passed the physical yet.

Once again, had he passed any physical when we acquired him???

It's not an issue everyone knows he is rehabing and his doctors have been making public statements about his recovery all along.

I caught that too... He was given medical clearence to practice. Not sure if thats the same as passing a physical.

It was breaking around the same time as Trent being introduced, and I doubt much was talked about in regards to Culpeppers medical clearence. So as far as he knew, Culpepper still was not cleared to practice.
