RAIDERS FOCUSED ON JOHNSON?

There's increasing talk in league circles that the Oakland Raiders are planning to select receiver Calvin Johnson with the No. 1 overall pick in the draft.

Johnson is the best prospect that we've ever seen. He's big, he's strong, he can jump, he's blazing fast, he has soft hands, and he's not a butthole.

Beyond the fact that Calvin is everything that Randy Moss ever was, and at least one key thing Moss isn't, the simple reality is that the Raiders surely want to turn it around sooner rather than later, given the advancing age and declining health of owner Al Davis.

And Johnson is in a much better position to make an instant impact than quarterback JaMarcus Russell.

Of course, Johnson can't be added until Moss is long gone. And, preferably, Jerry Porter, too. Why risk letting either of these malcontents infect a guy who is, for now, the rare exception to the rule that receivers generally are pains in ***.

How much would this increase our chances of drafing Qb B. Quinn, if any??...

Would there be a chance that we could trade up with someone other than the Lions, where we wouldn't have to give up as much in compensation??....

Any thought / opinions???...

PHINZ RULE!!!!

can't argue that, johnson is #1 on most boards, the raiders need alot help, more than the dolphins, they should check every option

if quinn or russell was available at 4 or 5, i think they should move up to get a QB, i would be very happy with that move

I think this would effect JaMarcus moreso than Quinn. Quinn, is unatttainable at nine in my opinion. He has answered his critics with great workouts and numbers and teams like the Browns, Lions, Texans and Vikings seem way too interested to all pass on him. JaMarcus could freefall in my opinion if the Raiders pass on him.

If Calvin Johnson goes first overall though and Miami is hellbent on getting Quinn, Iwould think the Bucs at #4 would be an ideal trade partner. Most mocks have Johnson going to them an dif he is unavailable, they may look to trade down and grab someone like Amobi Okeye at the nine spot where he would be less of a reach.

I would think it would cost us one of our second rounders and a high second day pick at a minimum though.

Let's move up and get him. LOL, it would take a lot for the #1 pick

Lane Kiffin was on Total Access yesterday evening saying how much they liked Russell. They attended his workout and sat down and talked to him over dinner.

The Raiders have lots of holes. First, who's gonna block? And second, who's gonna throw Johnson the ball?

I'm not sure if Russel would freefall. While we've certainly heard more Quinn interest from the QB possible teams after the Raiders that could just be b/c Russel has been considered a near lock at #1. The reports I've heard called Russel's workout one of the best ever by a QB. Quinn's workout was described as anywhere from ok to good (by anyone not named Weiss).

If Johnson goes #1, the Detroit-Cleveland trade is dead and I think Joe Thomas goes with the 2nd choice (no one is going to trade up that far, outside chance Arizona). Cleveland will select Russell because Savage has plenty of ties to him. With the 4th overall the Bucs will be in a tough spot but I would be it is Gaines Adams.

5- Arizona listens to trade offers but decides to stick with Jamaal Anderson
6- Quinn to either us or Houston
7- Landry
8- Peterson if Houston is still here, if not Carriker to Washington
9- If we are still there here then a possible trade to make sure Buffalo does not get Adrian Peterson

Actually Russell's workout was OK, not GREAT

The reviews of Russell's and the other LSU players (except Landry/GREAT) was just OK. In fact Russell is said to have made several poor throws and Bowe dropped several passes. Bowe even graded himself a B or B+ after his workout. Russell was said to be out of shape and sweating profusely.

Quinn was said to have made every imaginable throw required of a NFL QB. 3-5 passes touched the ground and Weis said only one of them was obviously Quinn's fault.

You might see Russell fall like Rodgers did two years ago, but not as far.

Russell has to much raw talent to fall out of the top 10, if not one of the team there now, someone will trade to get him. While he made some poor throws, most people attribute it to him trying to show his stuff (arm strength and such) instead of just throwing the ball where it needed to go, and while he isnt in great shape its better than at the combine.

I'm sure they like several players. You have that luxury when you are picking 1st.

That's funny ! I heard one analyst on ESPN say it was the best quarterback workout he'd ever seen. Sorry, I can't remember who said it. Somebody back me up here.

dont leave out the other info. the reason why they said some throws weren't so good was b/c hewanted to show off his arm strenght. other then that, he was amazing.

btw, rem. bush was a sure lock number 1 last year as well? what happened....
