PFT: Rumors persist that Carl Peterson will be running the Dolphins

It's kind of adorable how some of you will go all in trying to spin anything into a positive. This would be Ross giving power to a friend of his who has a horrible track record in this league. That's it. There's no other way to read this. He's not acting in the best interests of the club.

Even if it happens, as long as we get a top coach and some fresh blood in the front office, it could work, but this wouldn't be a good sign. In fact, it's a plague of locusts type of sign.

this Petersen hire could work two ways....

a) he is out to prove himself all over, that the last few years in KC were just a fluke and he builds a winner here, by being extremely focused & driven

or

b) he comes in here and takes even more extreme chances on talent who are of questionable character, something the present regime wouldn't do the 1st couple of years (taking Larry Johnson this year showed their desperation), and it ends up like the Cincy Bengals part 2 - bad team full of criminal thugs

I think it ends with option b but who knows we could get lucky with option a

A is pretty optimistic. Peterson is an old man by now. He's been in the league a long time. Settled in as a suit. Those are the last people you expect to suddenly become driven. Those last few years in KC extend way back. They haven't been consistently good since the early 90's. I don't know how he can succeed in the league as it is now. The man never drafted a QB. He gave up a draft pick for Herm Edwards. He's probably the last person I'd look at to solve what ails us. I'm with you, man, I hope we get lucky, but I'd rather be relying on a different kind of Luck as we move forward.

Peterson is already running the Dolphins. The official announcement will come later, most likely just before firing Ireland. Petersons focus will be to bring in a GM and coach. The most likely coach will be Cowher and their are a couple of Cowhers guys being looked at for GM.

The Dolphins should be drafting 1-3 and will land their franchise QB something Peterson didn't do in KC but keep in mind, QBs were nowhere near as critical as they are now.

I hear you and I am really scared what the future of the Dolphins is. If we don't get Luck, I think we could be in for at least 5 more years of cellar dwelling being perhaps the worst team in the NFL for all that time. I don't know what kind of fanbase would be left by then......its bad already. Many fans have already given up, just read the posts on FH.

i'd be concerned about any gm who thought it was a good idea to go into any season with damn huard and brodie croyle the two options at qb...

I was happy about Parcells coming here, we ALL were, and look how that turned out...

So this time I won't be too happy or too angry with whatever is chosen. I'll wait until the 2012 season to start forming an opinion. Though, if we have the chance to go for Luck and don't, I will go to ANGRY Occupy Sun Life mode.

I wasn't in FH so I don´t have prove, but I know I wasn't happy.

Every day, the idea of giving Cowher full control seems more and more appealing.

Make it happen, Ross.

Again, Parcells II - The Sequel.

You guys talk about Cowher like he is THE ultimate franchise savior. He spent 14 years in well run organization, unlike the Dolphins, and only won in his 12th year when he got Big Ben...

And you want to give this guy full power?

Haven't we learned anything? Gosh, that frustrates me...

Exactly the point, Cower has been behind the scenes of a great franchise that finds away to win year in and year out. That is exactly what Miami is lacking since Shula stepped down and maybe Johnson. Miami needs a total culture change, as much as I despise the man it worked in NY for the Jets. There wasn't any huge roster turnover between 08 and 09, yeah they brought in some FA and drafted Dirty but the key change was the coaching.

This regime in Miami tried to force players into a system instead of adapting the system to the players. Shula adapted, Johnson did it, Belichick does it, Ryan etc...it is something I missed when I was talking up the team the past few seasons and something the suckage of this season brought to light, this regime doesn't adapt like the greats of the game did.

The next great coach for the Dolphins will be someone who is not shortsighted and set in stone (Parcells) but adapts and overcomes by changing styles to optimize personnel. Ryan made the AFC Championship but limiting the damage Sanchez could do to the team by rushing the football and playing great D, while this isn't the optimal way to win the Super Bowl it was the only thing he could do to overcome limited QB play. I just hope whoever Miami hires realizes this lesson and adapts the system to the roster.

oh.............and it might not hurt to take a QB in the 1st round and maybe even the 3rd!

No, he wasn't behind the scene, he was the coach. If he wants to be the coach in Miami, fine by me, but please don´t give him more power than that.

Again, I think your being a little unfair...the Chiefs were the winningest team of the 1990's and were only mediocre in 99 & 00 when Gunther Cunningham replaced Shottenheimer. Peterson doesn't coach the team. He brought in Dick Vermiel who had a 13-3 season and some success before he left.

If anything does bother me about Peterson, it is his affinity for acquiring vet QB's versus drafting QB's....He acquired Montana, Gannon, Trent Green among others and never drafted a QB in round 1.

Speculation is just that.

Ross is losing money. You think he doesn't try to keep the pulse of the fans? He surely knows this fanbase wants the team to draft a first round QB and bring in a new coach who is a proven winner.

He is not going to bring in Eric Mangini to coach the team.

Well if they did go with Peterson he already has a potential franchise QB lined up in the draft. Theres no way this team does better than 3-13 the rest of the way which means a top 5 or so pick. Obviously Luck will go #1, but you have Barkley and Jones to follow who would be a nice consolation prize. These guys are really getting overlooked because they are not Andrew Luck. They are still 2 potential franchise QBs.

Point is he won't need to screw up the QB position as have each of the previous regimes for the last 10 years (unless they don't draft one lol). He'll naturally get off to a good start.

Peterson sucks. Schottenheimer and Vermeil were the real winners in KC. Peterson is too old, we need fresh blood who understands how the game is changing today, not another Bill Parcells.

I admire the success the Chiefs had under Shotty and Peterson. It was consistent, though with no high level success. The decade since then has seen that one great Vermeil year as an exception and then nothing else. A losing record, no playoff wins. Carl never drafted a QB in his 20 years there. His drafts have had a small handful of successes surrounded by a wasteland of wasted picks. He's almost symbolic of all the things we don't want as Dolphins fans.
