"But as one source with knowledge of Caserio’s thinking told PFT, Caserio didn’t want to fire anyone. Per the source, Caserio likes coach Joe Philbin. And Caserio likes executive V.P. of football administration Dawn Aponte. And Caserio likes assistant G.M. Brian Gaine.
It appears that someone (i.e., some with the Dolphins) leaked to Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald that Caserio wanted to clean house as a way to explain Caserio’s decision to reject the offer. Basically, if he wouldn’t have the ability to do the job the way he wanted to do it, he didn’t want to accept it."

At this point, I think it's best for Dolphins fans to turn off anything Dolphins related until August/September, because it's gonna be a long offseason.

If he liked all them people why not take the job? That story sounds fishy.

he wanted the ability to hire and fire his head coach. doesn't mean he was going to come in and clean house. he just wanted the power to do so. ross wanted to be the only one able to hire and fire the head coach. non-story.

Hickey got some pretty good juice with this job, the only thing he can't do is fire the head coach but he has control over everything else so I wonder what was the reason that Caserio and Dawson turned down the job.

If firing the coach was the only thing stopping him from being able to "do it his way" then, yes, it does sound like that is exactly the reason he wouldn't take the job.

Most GM's don't get to do that though.

Report: trying to make sense of these silly reports is silly.
100% correct. If Caserio was such a good candidate to be offered the GM role and he liked Joe, liked Czarina Dawn, liked Stephen Ross, liked the weather, liked the zero state taxes in Florida, liked the 100%+ increase in income, liked that he would have roster responsibility, he didn't want to fire Joe, Czarina Dawn wouldn't interfere with his personnel decisions,...
So why did he say no?

It's obvious that the Dolphins flat out were not going to accept anyone firing Philbin this year after what happened with Sherman and then Lazor. You just knew that simply was not going to happen.

So either Caserio is being less than truthful here, or... as has been reported (and strenuously refuted by the Dolphins), Dawn Aponte really IS going to be above the GM.

Spin it howerver we want Hickey was basically the fall back option if nobody else wanted the job. I think he may be fine, hated Ireland but definitely not a premium hire on the surface.
Its kind of like drafting John Beck, you may not like the pick but hell if it works out do you care.
