We hear the Dolphins are expected to be on the lookout for a backup running back and potentially a backup wide receiver this preseason. While Ronnie Brown is clearly the No. 1 back and the Dolphins say they are happy with Sammy Morris as his backup, there is concern that Morris’ role as a special-teams standout could limit his effectiveness as a runner. Word is the Dolphins would prefer not to trade a draft pick for a backup running back, so they’ll scan the waiver wire or may be willing to make a player-for-player trade. At receiver, we hear that Kelly Campbell has the inside track on the No. 3 WR job following his performance in minicamp practices. He showed great speed and a rapport with QB Daunte Culpepper. However, the Dolphins are keeping their options open and could add another receiver if they believe it would be an upgrade over Campbell.

they BUY that miami is happy with morris but think we need a #2 because he will be TOO effective on special teams? or is they just really dont believe we are satisfied with morris?

i dunno, am i wrong to think that him being a big part of special teams shouldn't limit his ability in handeling the #2 RB position?

I doubt we add another reciever this offseason. I'm confident Welker or Hagan or Campbell can secure the 3 spot.

morris is very underrated.Very talented back . You'll see pos`itive yard`s guy.

He is not underrated by Dolphin fans on this board.

I agree with that.

Them saying we want another back-up because of Morris' special teams responsibilities is consistent with what we heard regarding wanting to keep Welker rested for special team work. While back-ups are expected to play special teams it sounds like Saban doesn't want guys out there for 80 plays and thus tries to limit the use of even spot starters' special team work.

I was going to ask some opinions about Chris Brown from the Titans. They already had him and Travis Henry and drafted Lindell White and I saw a report where he was asking for a trade. Of course he will want to start but maybe if Saban can convince him he will be used like Ricky I think he is the best person that may possibly be available.

another wide receiver??? Dude must be jokin, were stacked at WR

I don't think we need anymore WR's. We already have a great mix of youth and experiance IMO and that should be one of the most entertaining battles we have seen in a long time.

Really, the article isn't saying anything other than the obvious; and what all teams do at this time of year. From now until final cuts take place every team is on the lookout for anyone who could possibly upgrade a position. So if you read between the lines PFW is really reporting that there is nothing to report.

Yes and no. Typical mid-summer pablum, but my guess is that we're looking for some fresh meat at RB.

I believe they are right in then sense that if they use Morris as a backup and special teams it will really impact his performance especially if he gets injured. It would really deal a blow to our backup RB situation. They are smart in trying to get another back.

And further, I think the thing to take from that is that with the current situation if Ronnie goes down injured, Sammy becomes the FEATURED tailback. That would mean he's gone from special teams units.

Why make it so that an injury forces you to shuffle around two positions when you could get away with just shuffling one? If we grabbed a talented runner off waivers, we could go with a committee approach should Ronnie get injured, and that committee approach could allow Sammy to continue being a special teams ace.

we are never stacked. No matter what we have at WR, RB, etc. If you can get another player that is better that makes your team much improved.
