PFW Rivers article

Thanks for the link. I thought this was the most interesting part:

"A trio of teams that would seem to be in line for a new quarterback next season  the Jets, Dolphins and Raiders  have more vertical passing systems that don’t fit Rivers’ strengths very well ..."

I suspect Saban will look carefully at that. Of course, the Chargers will have trouble getting compensation for Rivers even close to what they gave up for him (a high draft pick). The would be fortunate to get a 1st round pick - and that would likely be a low 1st rounder (20-30 range at best).

It's an interesting scenario for the Chargers. But, I think there will be other, perhaps better, options for the 'fins. Daunte Culpepper may be very tradeable with a bigger cap hit coming and with the problems up in Minnesota. We might be able to get him for below a 1st rounder. I wouldn't mind that. On a lesser scale, John Kitna is going to be a free agent and he showed a lot of ability two years ago - changed his outlook on life and became a much better QB. I'd like to see he and Sage battle for the starting position, if we didn't get anyone else. Of course, Daunte being reunited with Linehan could be a huge coup for us - but I would not give up a 1st round pick for him.

Culpepper won't even be healthy enough to start next season (by all indications). His near future is right where he is, off the IR and on the PUP until mid-season. I'd be very surprised if he recovers from 3 torn ligaments in the same knee in less than 10-12 months. At any rate, somehow I think the owner of the Vikes doesn't want to change much with Meathead and Culpepper...just IMHO...

Kitna would definitely be a second tier QB pickup. Sage might be better, at least as far as arm strength...But if we picked up a young gun on day one (I'd love to see Cutler here, but that may be a pipe dream) to groom, he'd be an upgrade from Gus...

I wont be surprised...it we trade for Rivers....that the Chargers stuff A.J. Feeley in his suitcase for free....With a "Return to Sender" stamped on his forehead.

Once again, when did John Kitna become a better quarterback than Gus?

It's a lateral move at best, and there is no sense in making a lateral move like that when you already have Gus, who is an ideal number 2 quarterback.

Really?!? Told you that, did he?

I dont remember the source, but there was an internet article of one or two months ago talking about QB's miami was high on, if I'm not mistaken was leinart, young and cutler..and there was something about the dolphins not being interested in rivers...
of course we shouldn't buy everything we read, but, it was something..search for this thread if u have the time and interest

Its already known that Saban doesnt want Rivers.

Is there any source for that oft-quoted truism other than that throw-away Cote line? And didn't it say "organization", not Saban? And why would we assume that Saban would be telling the truth, anyway? Why would he lay his cards out on the table if he DID want Rivers? Drive the price up?

As to Kitna... he's better than Gus, but barely.

Not only is it a lateral move in terms of overall talent, but Gus fits Linehan's mold of a QB better than Kitna, and has the advantage of already knowing the offense AND having had a year working with the receivers. It's a no-brainer, Gus over Jon...at this point. You'd have to believe Jon was seriously more talented than Gus to want to bring him on board over Gus. He's not.

As for someone who might be seriously more talented than Gus, enough to bring him on board to unseat Gus, Kerry Collins is the only guy that comes to mind who wouldn't cost us a ton of money to get. I still maintain that if Steve McNair has any interest in playing for someone other than the Titans, he'd cost a pretty penny, and so will Aaron Brooks because some team is going to blind themselves into thinking Brooks is the next Jake Plummer.

Ramsey is the best fit for this system.
