Finally! Something worth talking about:

PFW Analysis of Miami's Improving OL

Interesting Tidbit: "The biggest improvements have come from OLT Damion McIntosh, who has been playing much better now that his injured ankle has fully healed, and ORT Vernon Carey, who seems to have found a home at the ORT spot."

Edit: How does this change what we should do in the offseason to improve the line?

The improved line play, along with the emergence of Ronnie Brown being more than a bust (refer to week two panic alarms) are probably the only bright spots of this season.

We need to replace Hadnot at RG because he is very undisciplined. I'm iffy on McKinney but if he wants too much money then let him walk.

I haven't seen Hadnot get his number called lately, have we been watching the same games?

In 10 games he has 7 penalties, all false starts, essentially killing 7 drives. That's too many.

I agree we should look beyond Hadnot for a starting guard.

But couldn't Hadnot play a number of positions on the line? we should keep him around in the future, sort of like a utility player. gotta start getting some depth on that line.

this line has averaged more than 5 a carry the past two games...if u think someone needs replaced..then that is ridiculous

Id rather keep hadnot and dump mckinney. Hes played better but i still cant stand him.

I think the O-line has been good to very good most of the year.

Houck has only had this year with them. He still has some magic to spin.

"How does this change what we should do in the offseason to improve the line?"

I think it changes everything. We no longer NEED to spend a day one pick on a lineman unless someone to good to pass up on drops to us in the 2nd or 3rd rounds.

Bringing in someone to push Hadnot AND Jeno James will be done though (like they tried with Middleton this year). I think if a cheap, veteran guard is out there we bring them in for sure.

We might need a center to if McKinney wants too much loot. Is Wade Smith a factor at center?

A backup "swing" tackle could be needed as well. The McDougal experiment failed and he won't be back so we'll need a guy who can play right tackle.

I think Damion McIntosh has been very good this year. He's healthy and Houck is getting him to play. Carey has also found his way. Shockingly, I think we are in great shape at tackle. No, we don't have a pair of Walter Jones' but compared to the slop we've seen our tackles try to pass off as "football" for thelast little while I'm quite happy with our tackles.

good post unified; i agree with just about everything.
The tackles have been nothing short of solid the last few weeks and Houck has earned his keep. Sacks are down from 37 to 14 and ronnie and ricky are producing whne they get the opportunity to find a rythym. We went 2 games without allowing a sack in the 2 games leading up to the Cleveland game, the first time thats hapopened since 99.

Hadnot and James have been playing great this year.

Most of the big runs have been gut, or middle left and right.

The tackles get the credit, obviously, for the sacks, but I am more impreesed with the guards.

I wonder how much cap space we will save in the future just by having HH and not needing to dish out the dough for high priced o linmen.

I agree with all the comments made in this thread however if a player like D'Brickshaw is available when we select you have to give it serious thought as Dominant LT aren't a regular occurence. Again I like the play of McIntosh this year but....

I'm very pleased with the job Houck has done thus far. He doesn't have much to work with, but compared to a year ago, it's like night and day.....

They deserve some props. Good job guys!!!

PHINZ RULE!!!
