For what it is worth.
Here in NC, Philip Rivers was at Cary Towne center mall signing autographs etc. I wished him luck for next season, even though I told him I was a huge Dolphin fan. He said "You guys are getting one of ours next year" and kind of smirked. He also said that now that he will be starting, you can expect the Chargers to have a great year. He seemed very confident about this.
I wished I asked him if he meant Brees, just to see his reaction.

Huh. He seemed pretty sure of himself.

God I hope we get Brees. Funny how we trade them Feely and end up getting Brees in the long run. Suddenly I feel like the Eagles did when they got rid of feely in the first place.

I'm not calling you a liar or anything, but the chances of Rivers commenting on where Brees ends up in 2006 is highly unlikely. Unless of course he wants to get into trouble with the NFL for leaking this kind of information prior to the start of Free Agency....

It would not be in his best interest to comment on Brees situation, and I'm sure he's well awre of the consequences of such comments. If you were Brees, would you wany your replacement commenting on something he's not at liberty to discuss....

Sounds too perfect for me. And Rivers would be a fool for making those comments IMO. It's simply not his place....

PHINZ RULE!!!

I believe AJ Smith has told River that Brees is gone and he is the man. Bad move Chargers.
On a side note, its good for the Chargers that Rivers is so confident. I think he will be a good player, similar to Brees.

AJ Smith , Chargers GM, has lost his mind- “I wouldn't care if it's Philip Rivers or Drew Brees leading us to a championship and holding a Super Bowl trophy over his head,†Smith said yesterday. “I wouldn't care if A.J. Feeley was called upon and led us to a championship and held that Super Bowl trophy over his head.":sidelol:

It's clear from reading the article that Schottenheimer and Smith are not on the same page.

According to the poster he never said "Brees". Would that still be a violation?

Rivers said nothing illegal toward NFL rules. He is a free human being, he is allowed to say whatever his OPINION may be. There is absolutely no way he could get in trouble for that.

Rivers, or any player likely has no inside information on where a FA is going to land. He is not liable in any way to speculate on where a FA may go. He's not a club official.

Think of the Pro Bowl where all players publicly petition for others to come to their team and about whether former teammates will come back.

I just don't understand what information you think was leaked?? It's one player speculating on another, happens every day.

No offense but I don't think you have a very reasonable basis to doubt this poster is telling the truth. Nothing Rivers said could get him or the Chargers or Brees or the Dolphins in any kind of trouble. Players speak this way about other players all the time and I find the situation, if it is true, to be 100% plausible FROM THAT PERSPECTIVE, based on my years of experience following the NFL very closely and the experience I have with NFL players firsthand.

Now, on the other hand, what are the chances this guy actually ran into Phil at a mall and he said something like this...it's kind of like those 'Michael Jackson just stopped at my house and asked to use the bathroom' stories. No offense to hipster, I don't know him and I have no reason to suspect he's a liar, but nor do I have any reason to suspect he's telling the truth either. It is up to us individually how to take this news based on what we think of the newsbringer and what we think are the chances that it's true. My only point is that if you want to not believe it, don't make the mistake of doubting it because you think it would be improper or some violation for Phil to say something like that. It wouldn't.

I understand the move. I've been calling this move out since god knows when. For a while AJ Smith had me fooled thinking he was going to make the wrong choice and deal Rivers, keep Brees, but in the end he's doing exactly as he should.

You and me both........I think something is wrong with that organization because they are really dropping the ball big time, as far as Brees is concerned.

I have no idea what Rivers said, but I can confirm Rivers did the autograph signing at the local mall. It was advertised in the paper here.

If thats what happened, cool. Why can't people just take people at face value? The guy was reporting news that we'd be interested in. Now, we all flame him? Uncool.

I dont doubt he said it, but dont really know for sure. but anyone suggesting he is breaking NFL policy, that is a joke. the only trouble he may get is from his boss but thats unlikely too.
