Well it's pretty obvious he's going to be the odd man out past this season in San Diego. He is a franchise QB. The Phins should really try to make a move at him this year before San Diego starts taking other offers with him.

He could make us an actual contender with just his addition.

Your thoughts...

I guess they would want to wait to see if there will be a bidding war for him later on. I would love to have him here but I think they will be asking for quite a bit for him. Not sure Saban wants to trade several picks for him.

My thoughts? We can't make ourselves a contender by trading away the future of the franchise for a QB that can't beat out Drew Brees. Don't get me wrong, I like Brees, but he's not a superstar, and Rivers sofar can't beat him out, so why would we trade our arm and leg for him? Because that's what he would cost us, way too much.

I'm so tired of these damn posts. WHy can't you people just let the coaches do their job? IF Houck can get this line to play better, both Feeley and Frerotte will look much better in your eyes. THen, we can draft a QB next season. Do you really think we can afford to pay for the salaries of a #2 pick (ronnie) and #1 pick (rivers from last season)? and still contend?

After what Brees did last season, there's no way ANYONE is going to take that job from him UNLESS he absolutely flops this season...

That's harsh on Rivers...

Rivers was always going to sit last year, it just so happened that Drew really showed up.

The Chargers would be ridiculed if they were to bench Brees for Rivers... it's exactly like benching a Pro Bowl QB for a rookie.

It's got absolutely nothing to do with Philip being unable to beat Brees out.

I'm not a big fan of these posts, but there is an advantage for trading for a QB like Rivers (IF, of course, the coaches think he has 'it' enough to take a look) -- San Diego will take the cap hit for trading him, and we'd have a player with no signing bonus...so we could bring him in for a one year deal at whatever his base salary is that season, and then re-negotiate if he plays well, or cut him if he doesn't. Cutting him would have no negative salary cap impact since he'd have no signing bonus due from Miami.

Now, is he a good enough QB? That's the scouts/coaches job.

How do you figure that Rivers would make us a contender immediately???

He hasn't played any significant time in the NFL and would have a mediocre line at best if he were here. I'm not saying that I wouldn't be happy if he were in Aqua & Orange but lets try to keep a little perspective....:shakeno:

Thank you for the sanity you frequently bring to this board.:D

Yeah, a Superbowl starter that couldn't complete a pass in the 2nd half of that Superbowl as we lost the lead and the game.

I would be happy with either one.IMO Brees is more likely to be traded. There is so much pressure on him to repeat last years performance that even if he hiccups he may be on the way out.

well, if brees had played any better... Point being, Phillip is an unknown also.

Without a formidable oline it doesn't matter who's behind center. Rivers isn't exactly a scrambler.
