SIMMS ON FINS
Chatted last night with Phil Simms, who calls Dolphins-Patriots with Jim Nantz on CBS and NFL Network on Thursday, and he had several thoughts on the Dolphins. Among them:

He said he needs to see more to judge how good the Dolphins are under Dan Campbell because the Titans aren’t very good. But what “they did to Houston was impressive. I have watched every Dolphins game.

"I will never say anything negative about Joe Philbin on the air. [But] it’s very noticeable the energy they’re playing with. Sometimes, the same message, different guy. It’s amazing how it’s received differently.

“I would listen to Dan Campbell because I’m afraid he would knock me on my butt if I didn’t.”

Simms said Jarvis Landry is “a really good modern day player. He’s faking reverses, running reverses. He looks quicker to me. He made some cuts, I went, ‘Oh my gosh.'

“Cameron Wake looks as fast as I’ve ever seen him… Ryan Tannehill hasn’t disappointed me. He’s a really solid NFL quarterback. [Longterm], we’ll judge him on the won/loss record.

"Lamar Miller’s speed is evident, but the offensive line has been more aggressive the last two weeks. Mike Pouncey is unbelievable. Pouncey and Branden Albert are special. You need two studs on an offensive line to win and they [have that].
"Miami getting a wild card wouldn’t shock me. The AFC is so much better than the NFC.”

It's an uphill climb for that wildcard since we started 0-3 in the AFC but at least we're back in the conversation for now.

Channel surfing last night, I ended up on CBS Sports network.... they were showing a Showtime's weekly NFL show. Esaison (1 of the biggest tools in the media IMO) was nutslurping NE saying they had not lost at home in Oct since 2005.

Simms reply, "It doesn't matter. Its irrelevant"

Streaks are made to be broken. So, Why not tonight?

If funny you would think as they get each win the odds would increase that they would lose one, whatever a tipped ball a fumble something just like has happened to every other NFL team.

Mike Mayock doesnt do Thursday Night Football anymore?

This was the last sentence of the article that I did not include. I think Mayock will be there for analyzes but wont call any games.

This is CBS' last Thursday game for a while and next to last of the season, with the package moving exclusively to NFL Network next week. (CBS also airs a Packers-Lions game in early December, with an NFL Net simulcast).

One thing is certain...Nantz's man-crush on Brady will be on full display tonight. Might have to find the radio call somewhere.

Since CBS is the "AFC Network" I've always seen it as a huge conflict of interest that CBS and the Patriots have teamed up to have that CBS Zone restaurant at Foxboro Stadium. Moonves and other CBS workers hanging with Kraft in his box during games......to me, that is shady.

I am not a Simm's fan (he talks way too much during games, even more than Collinsworth), but he said some good and fair things about the Phins here.

I like Simms.

I was so happy to see him back on Inside the NFL this week.

I find Michael Irvin almost completely unbearable. He ruins every show he is on.

Agree. The law of averages has to kick in eventually. Another example is the jets at one point had won 8 in a row over the phins .... that series has "normalized" and we should see the phins go on a streak.

Hallelujah. Praise Jeebus. I'm still upset (Not as bad as last yr) at having Elementary debuting in late Oct/Early Nov. Luckily tonight, there is the Bones/Sleepy Hollow Crossover and college football to distract me if I start getting too irritated.

I don't know about other teams but we knocked the snot out of them on Sept. 21, 2008.
