Probably a good exercise to objectify my understanding of the situation. I'm a Henne supporter.
Yes, I agree that the emotion part is an issue. Football is an emotional game and guys feed on each others spirit. This can be intimidating to an opponent and through strength of spirit a team can gain a sizable advantage. But it isn't everything (see Joe Montana). I think Henne does have a will to win though....he wouldn't make it to this level if he didn't have it.
Strongly disagree. Last year his big problem was the interior pass blocking breaking down. It was basically impossible to throw at times. Last weeks game was encouraging in this regard because the pressure came from the ends which he handled pretty well.
Yes, but I can't blame him given that some media don't seem to evaluate him objectively. He seems to have had a target on him since last year in the pre-season from some circles. This snowballs when a play that isn't his fault like the first interception last week puts added pressure on him. I think his teammates have to help with this issue. Given the Crowder and previous Marshall comments though, it seems that some are unwilling.
not really...decent escapability IMHO
I don't really think so IMHO. A lot of his "dumb" picks are on touch pass plays where it just seems he can't place the ball where it needs to be placed or he underestimates the skill of the DB. This is probably a huge reason why he had the lowest percentage of dropped interceptions in the league. Probably more related to his skills than decision making.
good definition of Pennington. not Henne. I think Henne would have injury issues if athleticism was a problem.
I agree. This is his biggest problem. He shouldn't even try these passes (think Favre)
I disagree. I think his fundamentals are pretty good.
I think the big problem is the poor interior line play. Should also improve with experience.
Deep passes to the right yes....to the left he's pretty good. Sideline throws are only a problem when he tries to put touch on the passes
I have no idea where you see this. I think this is one of his strengths actually.
He wasn't allowed to audible so there is very little he can do to avoid impending disaster except call timeouts (which he did alot)
Given the play design there is rarely any room for receivers to run. Defense never fears the deep ball. Burning them deep a few times will greatly improve this I hope.
Also underestimates the speed and jumping ability of defenders
agreed
as i pointed out in another thread. Henne's problems:
No emotion or will to win.

No pocket presence,

lacks confidence

, slow feet,

poor decision maker,

clumsy, no athleticism to speak of,
good definition of Pennington. not Henne. I think Henne would have injury issues if athleticism was a problem.
no touch on his passes, cannot drop passes behind linebackers or in front of safeties because of his lack of touch,
I agree. This is his biggest problem. He shouldn't even try these passes (think Favre)
has poor fundamentals (slow as molasses release, low release point, poor in the shotgun and he doesn't even like being in the shotgun, etc.),
I disagree. I think his fundamentals are pretty good.
picks the wrong throwing lanes...
has more batted balls at the line of scrimmage than any QB in the league over the past 2 seasons (because of his low release point and poor choices of throwing lanes),
I think the big problem is the poor interior line play. Should also improve with experience.
he's inaccurate on deep passes and sideline throws , very poor in play action with his fakes,
Deep passes to the right yes....to the left he's pretty good. Sideline throws are only a problem when he tries to put touch on the passes
can't beat shell coverages to save his life, has a lot of problems against various zone coverages, has problems reading any defense unless it's straight up man 2 man,
I have no idea where you see this. I think this is one of his strengths actually.
gets confused on pre-snap adjustments by the defense,
He wasn't allowed to audible so there is very little he can do to avoid impending disaster except call timeouts (which he did alot)
he's not good at hitting receivers perfectly in stride while they're on the move (he's more of a stop dead-target QB where receivers are at a standstill like on curl routes etc),
Given the play design there is rarely any room for receivers to run. Defense never fears the deep ball. Burning them deep a few times will greatly improve this I hope.
stares down receivers constantly...
Also underestimates the speed and jumping ability of defenders
but other than that, he's a pretty good QB
