The simplicity of the Dolphins' defense makes it as favorable as any for a rookie QB to face in his first playoff game.
"They're definitely not the Baltimore Ravens on defense," Simms said. "They just try to beat you with fundamentals, execution and toughness, and that's it. There are no elaborate blitz schemes. They won't try to give you a lot of different looks. They're pretty basic."

Thoughts?

It is a vanilla Defense. Paul Pasqualini stinks.

It's a vanilla defense because we don't have a middle linebacker capable of running anything more complicated and because we don't have the talent to do much in the way of man coverage.

Yup, this is the same "basic" defense that beat his boyfriend into the ground last week. Hell, I'm surprised that Simms could tear his lips away from Brett's *** long enough to even comment on the Phins D.

If you play sound football and execute the fundamentals, there should be no need for alot of different looks. Seems like our "basic" scheme nearly crippled ol man river.....and he's no rookie.

That is a foolish thing to say after last year. This year our defensive players are put in a position to succeed, but last year everyone was utilized incorrectly. Last year was a complex scheme that resulted in a 1-15 season. I am fine with Paul P. He is not Rex Rayn, but who is.

rex ryan and ray lewis are two of the NFL's most known defensive guys...
other than dick lebeau, ryan might be the best.. spagnolo from the giants is genius too...
ray lewis is the best MLB maybe ever, presnap, he is like Peyton Manning... the man is the epitome of MLB.

besides if we're a vanilla defense they are a vanilla offense, they run the ball and throw low risk passes. At least I'm not worried about a bigtime reciever and dangerous QB... if we tackle their running backs, we will win...

our offense is more complex than their defense is complex.

It is a basic defense. The players said it themselves in preseason. They also said they loved it.

This whole team is built on fundementals.

I think that you would probably agree with me but I would rather have a team built on fundamentals than solely on talent. Now, I think what we have to do going forward is to acquire some better talent while maintaining the high degree of fundamental knowledge/experience.....

we don't have the talent for anything special(yet)

Porter needs help, we could use another playmaker at S and a killer NT

we cant do much b/c of that sole reason, lack of talent. we cant put our D backs on an island cuz there cover skills are suspect and we cant pressure much b/c our team lacks the talent for a constant basic pressure and a lot has to do wiht the NT inablity to break/collapse the pocket and our LB are not built for the pass rushing skills. Akin is a good situational LB, roth is horrible at pass rushing and crowder is almost 99% of the time a second late on everything he does when it ocmes to blitzing.

thats why a guy like dansby or suggs will be of great interest to this FO.
then u put in a guy like McFadden, Robinson, Johnson (S alabama, AMAZING cover skills and brains i want him no matter what although not good against the rush) and u can trust the secondary a bit more. neone even konw who our 3rd DB is? cuz i havent seen JA since the NE game and I havent seen jones except for blitzing. I think Culver is in on more plays then neone else past the 2 CB starting. Culver reminds me of Bell, always draping on his guy to deflect i like him a lot.
