Philbin and C. Johnson Altercation

Altercation...yeah I especially liked when Philbin had Chad in a headlock and was pounding on his face. It was extremely violent.

Was it me or last night on Hard Knocks was Coach Philbin having a hard time telling Chad to shut the **** up and be happy that he has an opportunity to make the team???? He seemed to be struggling to tell Chad to be a professional?

I was thinking the same thing while watching it. It looked like he found it hard to look him in the eyes while telling him. I also thought he should have said no you cant come in we are having a meeting. Instead he let him come in and it was Chad who said oh I should leave.

He didn't need to shout, it was just a warning to rein it in a bit.. People need to stop with the exaggeration.

I thought Philbin handled it perfectly. He told Chad what he didnt like, told him that they would not tolerate it, and it is up to Johnson to make it happen. I think Philbin knew he was on camera (Hard Knocks) and was somewhat uncomfortable because of that.

Didn't seem like an altercation at all, Joe is just a down to earth guy trying to make his words have an impact on Chad.

Well, get used to it Sileo. The whole senior coaching staff (Philbin, Sherman, Coyle, O'Keefe) are paternal, good guy types who gain respect by building character as well as football players.

I don't think they're either soft or naïve. I do think Philbin should have run Chad out of his coaches meeting though.

i am more than 100% positive hard knocks had something to do with that. Im sure chad got the ok from philbin just for that 1 meeting. It was a 1 time thing to open up the show.

The only thing I found concerning was the lack of eye contact. Otherwise that was not an altercation and not a big deal at all.
I think Philbin is at home coaching practice but is working through addressing the team and players as HC. I think he'll improve everyday as he gets into his groove.

I don't think Philbin was struggling to "tell" him but I do think he was struggling to "tell" him in a way that Chad would understand.

Now, this is because Chad Johnson is a ****ing idiot and not any fault of Philbin.

Chad is "just gonna be Chad" and that's the end of that.

Good luck to Coach Philbin dealing with that dude's nonsense.

Lol, u soooooo jealousy of Chad. If you ask nice, you might be able to carry his jock.

Chad will cas his checks, you keep being mad on the Internet. Lmao!

Sileo should not be allowed on the radio after his racist comment in Central Fla.

Philbin was pussiefooting a little. But who can blame him, with the cameras rolling and the somewhat unpredictable Ocho next to him. He's gotta control the situation, and he did.

This thread is not titled correctly. There wasn't any altercation, it was a conversation and Philbin got through to Chad just fine. Check Chad's tweet

LAck of Eye contact is actually not a big deal in this scenario. He is out in public viewing his team practice and trying to simulate a casual conversation in front of everyone not to embarass Chad. Eye contact would conyveyed more of an confrontational approach which likely doesnt work with Chad. This technique demonstrates this coach is cerebral and knows how to approach different types of personalities .
