Matt Moore - QB - Dolphins
According to the Miami Herald, one of the primary reasons the Dolphins didn't go harder after Matt Flynn was because coach Joe Philbin and GM Jeff Ireland were "not entirely convinced" he would beat out Matt Moore.
We're not sure whether this is post-miss damage control, leaked by the team, or a fact. If Philbin, Flynn's coordinator in Green Bay, was unsold after four seasons coaching Flynn, it would make sense for the Fins to pass. Per the Herald, the Dolphins also weren't willing to pay Flynn "more than double" Moore's $2.5 million salary. They did give 34-year-old David Garrard a $3.35 million base deal with the potential to make $5 million.

Everyone said they wanted to trust Philbin on Flynn but as soon as he signed with Seattle Ireland gets blasted for low balling a backup QB.

Why pay a guy double what Moore makes if he's not any better? If I were a Seahawks fan, I would be very nervous right now

Plus the Seahawks told him he would have to win the starting job. He was not our answer at QB and glad we have moved on.

My buddy in Seattle was real excited about Flynn until he saw the contract numbers. He's still an upgrade over Tarvaris Jackson, though.

How on earth did Ireland think he could get Flynn for less than $5m a year ? We signed a nickel corner for more than that

Hmmm don't think so

"post-miss damage control, leaked by the team" - yep

bingo...way to bring in the kid and expect him coming off of a 7th round rookie contract which is as bare boned as it gets in this league pretty much to sign for less than $5 mil per...and yet you go out and give david garrard almost $5 mil with incentives to do nothing going forward for us...

more after the fact leaked garbage by the team...

From the interviews with Flynn's dad, it was pretty obvious that he wanted to come play here and was disappointed that we wouldn't offer him more money. I think the Fins were hoping we could bring him in super cheap to compete and that he'd take the discount for a chance to start for Philbin.

So you guys think he is worth the $8+ million that Seattle is paying him?

Man, if Ireland is looking for guarantees he is in the wrong business. I do know it isn't hard to average less than 200 yards per game passing, pass for just over a TD per game, not fumble 13 times, and not win a single game in the clutch. That is not hard to beat out. A worthless QBR might be though.
