Cleveland possibly. if Smith had no leverage why would Sf sign him right after they missed on Manning.

cleveland didn't even set up a visit for him and the only other team were the seahawks who got flynn, the browns offense is a hard offense to learn and takes year to get it down.

manning had only visited us. and sf then resigned him . If they had no competition for his services then they could have signed him lower.

And he had to sign the same offer that had been on the table for weeks. also, a little known detail in the contract allows the 49ers to cut him after this season and only owe him $1 million dollars. He essentially came crawling back and got a one year deal

It could be a one year deal but if they had him over a barrel why sign him for even that much . SF has a much better front office than us right now, if we were not serious players for Smith Sf could have waited it out and got him cheaper

Smith is their starter in 2012 and is getting starter money. But they really didn't commit to anything beyond this year.

Smart deal. Much better than a competition between Moore and Garrard. have a feeling Tanneyhill is our guy and he may be able to actually compete since he will know the offense better than anyone at qb

TedSlimmJr is one hell of a poster. It seems a waste to see him debating people who are so oblivious. He is exactly what I consider a quality Dolphins fan. Someone who gives a damn enough to look at things honestly and offer a thoughtful analysis of the situation. Unlike a lot of you he seems to actually ****ing care about the team. If you're any kind of fan of something, you have to hold what you invest your time and thoughts towards to some sort of standard. I think he perfectly articulates the case of the large segment of the fanbase that's dissatisfied with how things are. It's good to read unfiltered common sense. The man's injecting some real talk into a thread that often meanders into nonsense.

TY.. wouldn't mind this one going viral.. got a FB account? :idk:

Yeah, I'll post it on my FB and give you the cred bro. I only have like 40 friends though. Sadly I'm not popular enough to be a FB Wh*re

Garrard could be bait by Miami to make teams think we may not take a Tannehill in round 1.If Garrard's money don't count before the 53 countdown it makes all the sense to sign him as insurance we don't get a quality QB.Not saying it will happen but it could.Draft Tannehill at number 8th slot and someone else Case Keenum in later rounds then cut Garrad right at the 53 cutdown. You still have your two QB's you said you wanted and your save Garrard's cap space..

*Sigh* A lot of us were saying from the get-go that a 2game wonder for an offensive juggernaut who was a 7th round draft pick from an awful college QB program for a reason, isn't worth starter's comp unless the guy that knew him best, wanted to hitch his fledgling HC career wagon to him. Obviously that was not the case.

Many of us also conceded that Smith did a pretty good and controlled version of Trent Dilfer this past season under Harbaugh's watchful eye. However, in reality he was a 1 year out of 7 wonder and may be a bit better than Moore, but certainly not 2-4X better which is how we'd have to pay him.

It's Logic 101 people! You're certainly welcome to see ghosts lurking in closets if that's the way you're hard-wired, but common sense asserts this is more fact than fancy!!!

if he makes the 53 that $3.35 mil is on the books buddy...and then the incentives can take it to almost $5 mil if he sees the field...which i think ireland expects him to be the week 1 starter and bridge the gap to the draft pick qb...ie tannehill

You don't know how guaranteed contracts work. Stop.

and you don't understand what the difference b/t guaranteed money and full contract terms are...flynn won't get that money in that total contract unless he shows them he's worth it...bottom line is if he fails they spent $10 mil finding out...we get a guy who does nothing for the future that if he makes the 53 and plays you can bet he reaches incentives that take him close to the $5 mil mark in garrard...

how you guys can't understand this i don't know...i can't put it out any plainer...

1. No. You don't understand how guaranteed contracts work. If Flynn plays this year and stinks, he receives probably $13,000,000. There is part of the money that is guaranteed, and there are other incentives.
2. You have no idea what the "incentives" are for him to reach the $5,000,000 mark. Stop acting like you do.
3. Just because he joins the 53 man roster does not mean his entire contract is guaranteed. Think of it this way... if Miami and Seattle both decide they want to cut their QBs in the middle of the season, Miami in 2013 would be on the hook for $0. Seattle would be on the hook for $7,000,000 more.

If Flynn can't stand out as an exceptional upgrade then you can't pay him that kind of money. Matt Moore did very well for us last year and is a tough SOB. So i agree with the idea that you have to find someone that, from the get go, seems to have the talent to unseat him. I don't think Flynn was that guy. I think Sherman is convincing the others that Tannehill IS that guy. To be continued...........

LOL! Andyahs if that happens I would be kinda shocked due to the money they are paying him. You know how politics play a part in decisions. If its close to even, I see them going with Flynn.Just my opinion

Ralph Mancini ‏ @ReverendRalph

Reports surfacing that Tarvaris Jackson may actually beat out Matt Flynn for the starting QB job in Seattle. #Seahawks

And this was determined over the past week without either of them taking a snap, putting on pads, running a drill, having dinner together, how?

Its obviously someone twitting just for the sake of twitting
